03D2AD21BD20A73986CEFEFC66AA87E4.taxon	discussion	The genus is common in both hemispheres, except for the tropical zone (Potapov et al. 2011). Species from the Southern Hemisphere differ by the absence of ms-chaetae on Abd. II and anterior position of s 4 - chaetae (if present) on Abd. IV (Potapov et al. 2011). Taxonomy of the genus Parisotoma was developed by Fjellberg (1977), Deharveng (1981), Rusek (1984), and Potapov (1991). It is the most diverse genus of Isotomidae for South Africa with several species under description. Here we provide the descriptions of two new species with a reduced set of s-chaetae on the body.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa. 03D2AD21BD20A73A86CEFD5E64A48420.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The strongly reduced s-chaetae chaetotaxy is shared with only P. sexsetosa Potapov, Janion & Deharveng, 2011 from which the new species differs by 7 (vs 6) posterior chaetae on dens and s 6 on Abd. IV and e 7 in labial palp missing. The absence of s 6 on Abd. IV was previously unknown in the genus. Chaetae of posterior side of dens (“ 2 median + 3 lateral ”) are as in Holarctic species. The “ 2 + 3 ” chaetae on the dens and the absence of lateral s 6 - chaetae on Abd. IV sharply define this new species in South Africa. Formally, P. ruseki sp. nov. can be compared with P. trichaetosa (Martynova in Martynova et al. 1977) (Palaearctic) which has nearly the same number of s-chaetae on body. Parisotoma trichaetosa differs by four teeth on the mucro, the presence of ms on Abd. II and other essential characters. Name derivation. The species is dedicated to our Czech colleague Josef Rusek (1938 – 2022), who contributed immensely to the taxonomy of the genus Parisotoma.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa. 03D2AD21BD22A73C86CEFF0562308188.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The species is well defined by moderately reduced sensillar chaetotaxy: 5 s-chaetae (vs 6) in p-row on Abd. I – III. The most South African species show complete (6 s) or more reduced (4 s: P. sexsetosa, P. ruseki sp. nov.) set of s-chaetae. It is also characterized by the presence of 8 chaetae on posterior side of dens, that is unknown among “ austral ” representatives of the genus so far. Name derivation. The word “ yehlathi ” means “ of the forest ” in the local language, isiXhosa. It reflects the occurrence of this species in Afromontane forests in the Western Cape of South Africa.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa. 03D2AD21BD25A73F86CEF9A467A0875C.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The new species sharply differs from congeners by s-chaetae on Abd. IV and V. Two contrasting spatterns on posterior part of abdomen were known in Folsomotoma: - 2 or 3 very long accp s-chaetae on Abd. IV and 4 short s-chaetae on Abd. V (F. boerneri (Enderlein, 1903), F. kerguelensis (Enderlein, 1903), F. octooculata (Willem, 1901), F. subflava (Salmon, 1949 )). - 3 short accp s-chaetae on Abd. IV and 4 very long s-chaetae on Abd. V (F. bioculata (Womersley, 1934), F. marionensis (Deharveng, 1981), F. punctata (Wahlgren, 1906 )). Folsomotoma amyliuae sp. nov. has short s-chaetae on both Abd. IV and V that was unknown in the genus. Thickening of 4 s-chaetae on Abd. V are shared with F. subflava (Campbell Isl.). In addition, the size of the new species (~ 1 mm) is uncommon for the genus — only F. punctata, F. minuta (Salmon) and F. anomala (Salmon) are similarly small. Following Deharveng (1981), the two latter species were probably described basing on immature specimens, or they belong to another genus. Due to its small size F. amyliuae sp. nov. can be easily confused with pale Parisotoma. Name derivation. We dedicate this species to W. P. Amy Liu, who has contributed to increasing the knowledge of Collembola of South Africa.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa. 03D2AD21BD26A73F86CEFD1C6231811C.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Specimens from Outeniqua (Western Cape) probably belong to another species which differs from F. amyliuae sp. nov. by the number (2 + 2 vs. 3 + 3) and shape (more pointed) of spines at distal edge of manubrium, thicker s 6 and s 7 on Abd. V (Fig. 34) and only one (vs two) short s-chaetae on Ant. I. The form from Baviaanskloof (Eastern Cape) shares all characters with F. amyliuae sp. nov. apart from 2 + 2 spines on the manubrium. In Outeniqua, in mixture with the species mentioned above, juveniles of an obviously larger species of Folsomotoma with very long medial accp-s-chaetae on Abd. IV (Fig. 35) were detected. They may be close to Folsomotoma subflava (Salmon) as redescribed by Greenslade (1986). Further study may shed more light on these species.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa. 03D2AD21BD26A73086CEFA3463DA8790.taxon	distribution	Distribution. This is the first record for the Southern Hemisphere. Widely distributed in Mediterranean of the Northern Hemisphere (Potapov 2001). Fjellberg (2009) also recorded this species from the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Central Atlantic (Canary Islands). It is recently registered in Baltic Sea (Russia: Curonian Spit, A. Babenko, pers. comm.) where it is probably more rare.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa. 03D2AD21BD26A73086CEFA3463DA8790.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The species was clearly defined by Fjellberg (2009). In line with the new definition, our specimens have one expanded and serrated chaeta on tibiotarsi II (Fig. 38), enlarged and serrated lower branch of maxillary palp (Fig. 37), thickened A 7 chaeta on tibiotarsi III (Fig. 36), two chaetae on retinaculum, and normal labial palp (b 3 – b 4 guards set separately, and H chaeta not reduced). In all examined material (including from South Africa), the labial palp of this species has two medial processes: one in front of guard A and another on inner side of guard B (Fig. 39). We also collected many individuals of a presumably new species of Halisotoma from Cape Point National Park, floatation of sand on beach, 14 June 2019, coll. C. Janion-Scheepers & M. Potapov. It shares with H. boneti one (not two) serrated chaeta on tibiotarsi II, thickened A 7 chaeta, normal labial palp and labrum. It is smaller (adults of ~ 1 mm) and differs by normal branches of maxillary palp, 5 – 8 chaetae on tenaculum, and 5 (vs 8) ommatidia (with 2 posterior smaller). The species also has considerably expanded lateral process in labial palp, unlike its congeners.	en	Janion-Scheepers, Charlene, Potapov, Mikhail, Deharveng, Louis (2023): New and little-known Isotominae (Collembola, Isotomidae) from South Africa.
