In the Indian Ocean it is known from the central part to the Antarctic Continent (Vinogradov 1962). It seems to be more common and widespread in the Pacific Ocean and Zeidler and De Broyer (2009) record it from the Pacific Sector of the Southern Ocean. It seems to be a deep-water species inhabiting meso- and bathypelagic depths (Vinogradov et al. 1982 /96). The above records confirm its occurrence in the Antarctic Zone of the Southeast Pacific Sector and the Southwest Atlantic record is the first for that sector and the Atlantic Ocean.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03DCD821FFF9FFF6FF3CB21CFE7FAA81	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. It is also the second most common species of Physocephalata collected from the Antarctic Zone by the Eltanin. It inhabits a wide range of depths from 200–5500 m and even deeper, but seems to be more common at depths of 1000–3000 m (Vinogradov et al. 1982 /96). Zeidler and De Broyer (2009) recorded it from the Southwest Pacific and Indian Ocean Sectors but not the Atlantic. It is recorded here from several localities from the Southwest Atlantic Sector to 61.675°S, representing new records for the South Atlantic. The above records from the Pacific and Indian Ocean Sectors also provide several range extensions supporting a circumpolar distribution for this species.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03DCD821FFFAFFF5FF3CB4D0FD30A993	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. It seems to be most common in near-surface waters (0–200 m). The only previous record from Antarctic waters is from the Western Indian Ocean Sector, north-east of Prydz Bay (Wagler 1927). The above record from the Eastern Indian Ocean Sector confirms its occurrence in that region.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03DCD821FFF0FFFFFF3CB138FAB3AB6B	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. There are only two previous records of this species from the Southern Ocean; from the Southeast Atlantic Sector, near Bouvet Island (Wagler 1926) and from the Eastern Indian Ocean Sector, near the Davis Sea (Vinogradov 1962). Thus, the above are new records for the Antarctic Zone of the Southwest Atlantic and Pacific Sectors.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03DCD821FFF0FFFEFF3CB254FE09AC00	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
