Azevedo 2017

Glenosema dura Barbosa, Kawada & Azevedo sp. nov.

Plates 19–23

Specimens examined: Holotype: “ ♀ YEMEN, Lahj, VII.2000 – Malaise trap, A. van Harten & col[lector] (CNCI)”.

Description: Holotype female (Plate 19). Body 3.61 mm. LFW 1.77 mm.

Colours: Head and mesosoma dark castaneous nearly black; metasoma, scape, pedicel, mandible, coxae, trochanters, femora, castaneous; dark castaneous; flagellum, palpi, tegula, tarsi light castaneous; wings clear hyaline with distal spot; wing venation light castaneous Head (Plate 21): Mandible with seven sharp apical teeth, with upper and lower edge of inner margin serrulate, lower corner of right mandible with translucid and very thin subtriangular projection. Clypeus with apical margin rounded, without lateral lobe; median clypeal carina inconspicuous, fused with median lobe, median surface with spine-shaped process. Antennal foramina distance more than antennal foramen diameter. Antenna with insertion as high as clypeal carina, with short and sub-erect pubescence; scape long and curved, with same diameter along its extension; pedicel unusually long, 3.5 × as long as wide, and 3.5 × longer than flagellomere I; flagellomeres longer than wide. Eye elliptical, small, placed dorsally. Frons polished, slightly punctured, without setae. First five antennal segments in ratio of about 14:9:4:3:3. LH 1.0 × WH. WF 2.0 × HE. WF 0.66 × WH. OOL 3.6 × WOT. VOL 0.5 × HE. Distance of posterior ocellus to vertex crest 1.5 × DAO. Frontal angle of ocellar triangle right; ocelli very small; ocellar triangle compact. Vertex almost straight. Occipital carina present. Gena polished. Hypostomal carina forming an acute angle. Palpal formula 6:3, segments with circular cross section, equally wide, apices of segments with some short setae. Mesosoma (Plates 20, 22): Pronotal disc 1.16 × as long as wide; polished, trapezoidal, side slightly concave; anterior slope of pronotal disc inclined in profile. Mesoscutum coriaceous, as long as mesoscutellum; notaulus absent; parapsidal signum present and conspicuous. Mesoscutellum coriaceous, touching propodeal disc; mesoscutellar sulcus very narrow, arched. Propodeal disc 1.0 × as long as wide; coriaceous, with seven carinae; median carina complete; inner discal carinae incomplete; second pair of discal carina incomplete; outer discal carina complete; sublateral carina absent; lateral carina present and conspicuous; posterior carina complete; spiracle elliptical, placed at lateral carina anteriorly. Declivity of propodeum coriaceous, with median carina. Lateral surface of propodeum strigate.

Prosternum conspicuous. Mesopleuron with acropleural sulcus continuous with mesopleural suture, without fovea; mesopleural suture with inner margin not striate.

Wings: Forewing elongate (Plate 23), dorsal face without setae, with three closed cells; median cell almost rectangular; stigma developed and elongate; r-rs & Rs vein medium. Hind wing with costal vein long, dorsal face without setae; with four hamuli.

Legs: Profemur not dilated. Trochanters clearly strong. Spur of protibia strong. Tarsi elongate. Tarsal claw simple and arched, with small basal tooth.

Metasoma 2.28 × longer than wide; coriaceous, tergites I–II with pair of conspicuous lateral spiracles; sternite II with antero-lateral flap projected to petiole.

Remarks: This species is similar to the Thai species G. chiangmaiensis Terayama, 1996, and G. doiinthanonensis Terayama, 1996, by having fully developed wings and spine-shaped clypeal process. However, the spine-shaped clypeal process of the former is much longer than in the two latter. In addition, in G. dura sp. nov. the pedicel is proportionally longer than in G. chiangmaiensis and G. doiinthanonensis, and the frontal angle ocellar triangle is acute, whereas is right-angled in G. chiangmaiensis and G. doiinthanonensis .

Distribution: United Arab Emirates.

Etymology: The specific epithet dura Latin refers the spine-shaped clypeal process.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03DD87B3FF8BFF82FF98B2D829D1FD41	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
