This genus is distinguished by the following characters: (i) pupillarial habit; (ii) digitiform fleshy marginal processes usually present on the pygidium and prepygidial segments; (iii) pygidium and sometimes prepygidium provided with robust, long and flexible marginal setae; (iv) anterior spiracles usually with pores in most of known species; (v) second lobes, if present, small and usually conical; and (vi) orifice of marginal ducts surrounded by sclerotized rim.

Comments: Cryptoparlatoreopsis currently includes seven species. Three are distributed in the desert zone from central Asia to the Atlantic, including in Iran, on the woody parts of Tamarix and Ziziphus: C. halli (Bodenheimer 1929), C. meccae (Hall 1927) and C. tlaiae (Balachowsky 1927) . Four others are found in the Oriental Region, including India and Myanmar: C. euphorbiae Hall & Williams 1962, C. longispina (Takahashi 1939), C. spinosissima (Lindinger 1911) and C. targioniopsis (Lindinger 1911) (García Morales et al. 2016) .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03E787856D7DFFA3DFC4F395E5BE070E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. M. Moghaddam (HMIM). Paratypes: IRAN, 4 adult females mounted on 1 slide with same data on left label as holotype slide; right label: Paratype / Cryptoparlatoreopsis kermanensis sp. n. (HMIM).

Field characters: Adult female appearance in life is not recorded.

Slide-mounted adult female (Fig. 1), n = 5. Body oval, membranous, except for parts of pygidium; 0.720 (0.544 –0.720) mm long and 0.352 (0.352 –0.416) mm wide. Antennae each with a single stout and curved seta. Anterior and posterior spiracles without associated disc pores, but surrounded by wrinkles. Pygidium with 2 pairs of lobes; median pair (L 1) set close together and fused for a short distance at their bases, parallel or slightly convergent, each lobe with a single notch on outer margin. Second lobes (L 2) very small, each represented by a sclerotized projection. Third lobes (L 3) absent. Anal opening located 3.50–4.50 (4.33) times length of anal opening from base of median lobes, anal opening 4.00–6.40 (4.80) µm long. Pygidial segments VI and VII each with a pair of long and robust setae, each longer than L 1. Gland spines absent from pygidial segments.

Dorsum. Marginal macroducts each with orifice surrounded by a distinct sclerotized rim, larger than submarginal and submedian ducts; with 1 median macroduct between median lobes (L 1); each side with marginal macroducts on segments VI and VII numbering 3; submarginal macroducts absent from between segments VI and VII; and only 1 submarginal macroduct present on segment VI. Smaller submarginal macroducts present on metathorax, prepygidial segments, and pygidial segments I– VI. Submedian macroducts present on prepygidial segments II – IV. Clavate paraphysis mesad of marginal macroduct opening present between VII and VIII.

Venter. Macroducts smaller than dorsal ducts, present mainly on submargin of pygidial and prepygidial segments II and III, thoracic segments and head, also singly on submedian areas of prepygidial segments II and III. Microducts present on submargin of pygidium. Duct tubercles absent. Perivulvar pores absent.

Comments. This new species is here placed in the genus Cryptoparlatoreopsis due to the following characters: (i) presence of a single strong antennal seta, (ii) sclerotization of macroduct orifices on pygidial margin, (iii) marginal setae of pygidium elongate and strong, (iv) median lobes (L 1) joined along the inner margin at base; and (v) second lobes (L 2) much smaller than median lobes. C. kermanensis is closest to C. meccae (Hall) in having: (i) median lobes (L 1) partially contiguous near their bases, (ii) second lobes (L 2) small and conical, (iii) fleshy fingershape plates absent from pygidium and prepygidial segments, and (iv) association with Tamarix . However, C. kermanensis differs as follows (character-states for C. meccae in brackets): (i) adult female completely oval (broadly pyriform with parallel sides), (ii) anterior spiracles without disc pores (with disc pores), (iii) 4 pairs large and strong setae present on pygidial margin (at least 6 pairs on pygidium and prepygidial margin). Also C. kermanensis comes close to C. longispina (Takahashi) in having: (i) fleshy finger-shape plates absent from pygidium and prepygidial segments, and (ii) median lobes (L 1) closely placed but differs in having (character-states for C. longispina in brackets): (i) adult female completely oval (pyriform), and (ii) 4 long setae present on each of pygidial side (about 7 on pygidium and prepygidium).

Etymology. The species epithet is formed from combination of the province name, Kerman, and the Latin suffix ‘ -ensis ’ meaning ‘belonging to’.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03E787856D7DFFA1DFC4F18DE37305E4	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
