The species C. smilodonta seems to have an absent accessory flagellum on Antenna 1. However, we did not add this information to create a new amended diagnosis because this structure is very fragile and could have been lost during the material manipulation. Otherwise, we decided to add the absence of accessory flagellum as a valid character on the identification key to world species of Cymadusa .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03F58782FFB0FFA1E3FBFC328A89F941	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. However, C. rasae sp. nov. can be distinguished from C. wistari by the following characters ( C. wistari characters in parenthesis): epimeral plate 3 posteroventral corner with a short and acute projection (broadly rounded); uropod 3, peduncle, dorsolateral margin with long setae (long setae present only distally).

Cymadusa rasae sp. nov. presents the following distinct and unique combination of characters in the genus: gnathopod 1 merus small and subacute, carpus elongated and subrectangular; gnathopod 2 merus elongated and subrectangular, carpus subtriangular, palm with a small and subacute posterodistal spine; uropod 3, peduncle, dorsolateral margin with 1 long pectinated setae.

Distribution. However, C. trindadensis sp. nov. can be easily distinguished by the other species of the genus by the following distinct and evident characters: male gnathopod 2, palm strongly excavated, dactylus strongly curved; uropod 1, spur strongly elongated and acute, almost half of peduncle’s length.

Distribution. Known only to the type-locality, Trindade Island (20°31’29”S, 29°19’29”W), Espírito Santo state, Brazil.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03F58782FFA2FFB9E3FBFBBC8819F9E4	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Gnathopod 2 with densely setose margins, propodal palm with posterodistal defining tooth smalland acute, mid-palmar tooth absent; dactylus subequal to palm. (Modified from Peart, 2004)

Remarks. C. filosa was the first species of the genus described for Brazilian waters. Oliveira (1953) described Grubia sardenta that later was synonymized to C. filosa by Peart (2004). However, it is possible to observe some divergences between Oliveira’s and Peart’s illustrations, especially on the elongation of the carpus of gnathopod 1 of G. sardenta, which resembles more C. icapui sp. nov. The type-material used for the drawings by Oliveira is currently lost, making it impossible to check and compare the samples with the original illustrations. The second Cymadusa species recorded for Brazilian waters is C. peartae, described by Andrade & Senna (2013) with typematerial from Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia states, both in the northeastern area.Based on recent literature review of papers from many study areas, we found the following records for C. filosa for the Brazilian coast:

São Sebastião Channel, São Paulo state (Amaral et al. 2003, Corte et al. 2012); Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro state (Cardoso et al. 2011); Coqueiro Beach, municipality of Anchieta , Espírito Santo state (Costa & Nalesso 2006); Sebastião Gomes Reef and Siriba Island, Bahia state (Cunha et al. 2013); coast of Rio de Janeiro state (Bate 1862, Dana 1853); Araruama Lagoon, Rio deJaneiro state (Da Silva et al. 2005); municipality of Matinhos, Paraná state (Dubiaski-Silva & Masunari 1995); municipality of Ubatuba, São Paulo state (Tararam 1977, Tanaka & Leite 1998, Jacobucci & Leite 2006, Leite et al. 2007); municipality of Caraguatatuba, São Paulo state(Tanaka & Leite 1998, 2003); municipality of Lagoinha, São Paulo state (Tanaka & Leite 2003); Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro state (Padua et al. 2013); Piedade Beach, municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco state (Santos & Soares 1999); Costa Beach, municipality of Vila Velha, Espírito Santo state (Stofel et al. 2008); Poço Beach and Prainha Beach, municipality of Itanhaém, São Paulo state (Wakabara et al. 1983).

Besides the literature review, collection materials were examined and specimens of C. filosa were found for the following locations(previously without records for this species): coast of Espírito Santo state (20.706°S, 35.457°W) ; municipality of São Sebastião, São Paulo state; Caieira Beach, municipality of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state; Tartaruga Beach, municipality of Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro state; Prainha Beach, municipality of Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro state. We believe that the wide distribution of C. filosa in Brazilian coast could be explained by human dispersal, as reported by Peart (2004).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03F58782FFA8FFBAE3FBF94E8AEFFB14	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
