Wingspan 14 mm. Head with crown ochreous; labial palpus terminal segment twice as long as second, pale ochreous; second segment brownish mixed ochreous; collar and tegulae pale ochreous; thorax ochreous with central brown streak on dorsum.</p><p>Forewing base brown on costa, dorsum orange; subbasal fascia broad, white, not reaching costa; antemedian fascia orange; costa brownish in middle; first strigula white, inwardly edged dark brown; second strigula white, lead coloured towards tornus; tornal spot small, leaden, triangular. Hindwing base white; subbasal fascia brown; antemedian fascia orange, conspicuous towards dorsum; an indistinct silver tornal spot; two parallel subterminal lines curved around first eye-spot; five eye-spots, separated by small silver spots, a small orange mark beyond fifth.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 28). Venulae curved slightly outwards, not significantly divergent.</p><p>Male genitalia unknown.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 74) Ductus bursae long, one third length of corpus bursae; corpus bursae with a sclerotised spinose patch running along the anterior two-thirds of its length, the posterior part with no sclerotisation is narrower.</p><p>Material examined. Holotype ♀ Black Point, Cobourg Peninsula, Northern Territory, Australia. 30.i.1977, E.D. Edwards, ANIC. Slide No. 13090.</p><p>Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the clear double submarginal line of the hindwing. The female genitalia are very similar to those of N. nigristriata Hampson, but longer.</p><p>Derivation. The name is from the Greek for brother, indicating the close relationship with other species.</p><p>Distribution. Known only from Northern Territory, Australia</p><p>Nymphicula christinae sp. n .</p><p>Description of imago (fig. 3). Wingspan 12–13 mm. Head ochreous; labial palpus terminal segment longer than second, ochreous; second segment clothed with brownish scales. Antenna ochreous brown; collar, thorax and tegulae ochreous.</p><p>Forewing base brown; antemedian fascia pale ochreous outwardly edged dark ochreous, extending obliquely from dorsum to costa; medial zone irregularly scattered with brown scales; costa suffused ochreous and brown; terminal area orange; first strigula slight; second strigula very slender, lower two-thirds filled with metallic grey; tornal spot a slender crescent almost from termen to medial zone; terminal cilia fuscous, whitish above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing with a few brownish scales at extreme base; subbasal band white; antemedian fascia orange, merged with tornal streak; medial zone white, more or less evenly scaled dark brown; submarginal row of scales slightly tinged light brown; five black eye-spots, but 3 and 4 united into one with metallic spot in centre, 1 and 2 also tending to combine; orange between eye-spots and margin; a silver grey spot in tornus and another before each eyespot.</p><p>Abdomen ochreous; legs pale ochreous, fore- and mid-legs brown above of femur and tibiae; second tarsus of male foreleg with strong fuscous scale patch.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 29) venulae secundae strongly divergent, very slightly curved outwards; venula media about as long as venulae secundae.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 54) abdomen with hair pencils 0.4 x length of abdomen; a further pair of hair pencils in the seventh abdominal segment half as long as that segment. Valva with dorsal edge comparatively straight, a tuft of hairs at apex; length of valva = 5x width. Aedeagus as long as valva, a small indistinct cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia not examined.</p><p>Material examined. Holotype ♂, data Cairns 1900 June, BMNH Pyralidae slide No. 17638. In coll. Forewing base ochreous; subbasal fascia indistinct, fuscous; antemedian fascia white reaching from dorsum to subcostal vein; medial zone white irregularly scaled dark brown; first strigula narrow; second strigula narrow, lower two-thirds filled with metallic grey, diverging strongly to costa, white inwardly edged dark brown near costa; tornal spot a slightly triangular crescent not touching termen; a few traces of dark brown along termen, cilia pale fuscous.</p><p>Hindwing basal quarter white; antemedian band orange-brown; metallic tornal spot distinct; medial zone scaled dark brown bounded by a strong straight submarginal line; ochreous between eye-spots and submarginal line; five eye-spots so confluent as to be scarcely distinguishable except for four metallic spots between, with an orange dot on margin; cilia inner third fuscous, outer two-thirds whitish, more fuscous towards apex. Abdomen and legs pale ochreous, joints of foreleg darker above.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 30) with venulae secundae parallel except diverging with strong curves at anterior end.</p><p>Male genitalia unknown.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 75). Ostium long and narrow. Bursa a long tubular shape with the posterior end bent back to make a U-shape; signa consisting of a spinose band from near collar to posterior end of bend in bursa.</p><p>Material examined. Thorax pale straw, posteriorly brown.</p><p>Forewing: base dark brown extending along costa to first strigula; antemedian band broad, white, from dorsum to above fold; medial zone white, almost entirely covered with dense brown scales; first strigula a broad white wedge extending halfway across wing; second strigula inwardly curved and edged dark brown, lower half shining lead-coloured; costa brownish between strigulae; terminal area yellow-orange;, tornal crescent metallic, broader at termen which it just touches, also just reaching brown of medial zone; a dark brown terminal line; cilia fuscous, paler above tornus where there is a slight indentation.</p><p>Hindwing extreme base tinged greyish-brown; subbasal band broad, white; antemedian band broad, brown, containing obscure orange spot; medial zone white, densely and evenly scaled dark brown; a strong brown submarginal line; yellow tornal streak with metallic spots before and beyond it; five black eye-spots joined by small metallic spots; small orange-yellow spots between eye-spots and termen.</p><p>Abdomen ochreous; legs pale straw, fore- and mid-legs brown above on femur, tibia and joints.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 31) with venulae secundae slightly curved and divergent.</p><p>Male genitalia unknown.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 76): ostium wide, collar strong; ductus bursae swollen; corpus bursae with signa comprising two spinose bands almost merged into one, which extend whole length of corpus bursae.</p><p>Material examined. Thorax whitish ochreous and brown.</p><p>Forewing: base dark brown extended along costa to first strigula; antemedian band broad, white, from dorsum to subcostal vein; medial zone white with brown scaling around central vein and from dorsum to subdorsal vein, these divide it into two rounded white trapezoidal patches; a broad area of brown before first strigula and beneath it two parallel diffuse brown lines before yellow-orange terminal area; first strigula wedge-shaped, white, second strigula an narrow wedge, slightly curved and inwardly edged brown, the lower half filled with leaden grey; costa between strigulae brownish; tornal spot shining lead-coloured, crescent shaped just touching brown edge of medial zone and not quite reaching termen; terminal cilia brown, whitish above tornus where there is a slight indentation of the termen.</p><p>Hindwing extreme base brown; a broad white subbasal band; antemedian band broad, brown containing obscure round ochreous spot; medial zone white, densely scaled dark brown forming a strong edge parallel to a strong submarginal line; an orange tornal streak and a small leaden spot before eye-spots; five black eye-spots connected by metallic leaden spots; orange-yellow between eye-spots and margin.</p><p>Abdomen pale ochreous; legs pale ochreous, brown above femur and tibia of fore- and mid-legs and on joints.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 32) Venulae secundae almost parallel, slightly curved outwards.</p><p>Male genitalia unknown.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 77) Ostium broad with strong collar. Ductus bursae swollen, slightly restricted before corpus bursae. Corpus bursae with a pair of parallel spinose patches forming the signa which extend for the whole length of the corpus bursae.</p><p>Material examined. Holotype ♀, originally described as a paratype of queenslandica Hampson, "Kuranda Apr.1905, F.P.Dodd" in BMNH. Two paratypes, ♀: Cooktown NQ Apr. 1922, Mareeba| Qld.| 31 Jan. 1963 | P. Antenna brownish ochreous; collar, tegulae and thorax pale ochreous.</p><p>Forewing base whitish; a dark fuscous subbasal fascia, bordering antemedian band which is broad white tinged ochreous, outwardly edged dark fuscous; medial zone irrorate dark brown from dorsum to costa; terminal area orange, not reaching costa; first strigula white inwardly edged dark fuscous; second strigula with lower half shining grey, inwardly edged dark brown towards costa; tornal spot barely separated from medial zone, not touching margin; terminal cilia fuscous except white above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base whitish more or less suffused fuscous; antemedian band indistinct, brownish with a conspicuous deep ochreous spot in disc; a deep ochreous tornal streak with elongate metallic spot in tornus and beyond; medial zone as forewing; submarginal line strong, just paler than scaling of medial zone; five eye-spots, confluent especially 4 and 5, separated by metallic spots; orange between eye-spots and margin.</p><p>Abdomen ochreous; legs pale ochreous, fore- and mid-legs darker above especially on joints, second tarsus of male foreleg with pale ochreous scales.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 33) Venulae secundae evenly curved outwards, slightly divergent; venula media weak, about half length of venulae secundae.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 55) Abdomen without hair pencils; gnathos over half uncus; valva length 4 x width; juxta finely spined. Aedeagus with sclerotised tip and curved cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 78) Ostial chamber weak, half length of bursa; courpus bursae bulbous anteriorly, signum comprising a dentate strip along its length, more heavily sclerotised near the edges of the strip posteriorly.</p><p>Material examined. Thorax pale ochreous.</p><p>Forewing: base pale ochreous, suffused brown; subbasal band brown; antemedian fascia broad, white, reaching from dorsum to sub-costal vein; costa brown from base to two-thirds of its length; medial zone small, triangular, white, densely scaled with brown except near dorsum; an indistinct white spot between medial zone and yelloworange terminal area in middle of wing; first strigula inwardly edged brown; second strigula narrow and straight, its lower two-thirds suffused metallic grey; tornal crescent almost touching termen; terminal cilia fuscous, except above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing: base white suffused pale fuscous; subbasal band broad, white with diffuse brownish transverse line in middle; antemedian band brownish, sometimes heavily suffused orange, and including orange spot; a yelloworange tornal streak with metallic spots before and beyond it; medial zone white, lightly and evenly sprinkled with brown scales; submarginal line a slightly paler brown than scales in medial zone; five black eye-spots connected by metallic spots; orange between eye-spots and margin.</p><p>Abdomen pale ochreous; legs pale ochreous, brown above on femur; tibia and joints of fore- and mid-legs.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 34) with venulae gently curved and diverging anteriorly, then bent towards one another.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 56): abdomen without internal cornuti. Valva ovate with apex rather pointed, length 3.5 x breadth. Aedeagus with a mass of scobinate sclerotisation towards apex and a short cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 79): Ostium broad; ductus bursae nearly as wide as corpus bursae, signa comprising a spinose band extending to three-quarters of length of bursa.</p><p>Material examined. Thorax pale fuscous mixed ochreous. Forewing base brown; subbasal fascia broad, yellow, edged on each side with white; antemedian fascia a thin sinuous line of dark fuscous scales; median zone evenly scaled dark brown; terminal area yellow extending well inside tornal spot; first strigula white, inwardly edged brown; second strigula white, lower two-thirds silver grey, yellow on costa; terminal cilia with grey line, whitish above tornus; tornal spot crescentshaped, entirely enclosed in yellow.</p><p>Hindwing base whitish; subbasal fascia indistinct; brownish antemedian fascia enclosing whitish lunule; tornal spot silver grey followed by a yellow streak to dorsum; median zone clear white with irregular patches of blackish scales; submarginal line clear, irregular, partially following contours of eye-spots; five distinct eye-spots separated by small silver studs and orange against termen; a silver grey spot before eye-spot 1.</p><p>Abdomen ochreous; legs pale ochreous, brownish above of forelegs.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 35): Venula media half to two-thirds length of venulae secundae; venulae secundae diverging, slightly curved outwards, anterior end very close to rami tympani.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 57): Abdomen with two pairs of coremata pads at base of eighth segment, a pair of internal hair pencils twice length of seventh segment; valva length 5x breadth, uncus at least twice gnathos. Aedeagus slender, sclerotisation around tip but no conspicuous cornutus in vesica.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 80): Antrum longer than ductus bursae; corpus bursae with signa comprising a spinose band extending from junction with ductus about halfway along length of corpus bursae.</p><p>Material examined. Thorax whitish ochreous mixed fulvous. Abdomen pale fuscous; hair pencils arising from between segments 6 &amp; 7, and at the base of the genitalia.</p><p>Forewing with costa arched; basal two-thirds of costa brown; base brownish; subbasal fascia white, narrow; antemedian fascia orange; median area fairly evenly scattered with brown scales; first strigula white, second strigula white in costal half, leaden dorsally, edged on both sides fuscous; tornal spot leaden.</p><p>Hindwing with base white mixed pale fuscous; tornus silver-grey, preceded by yellow streak from hind margin halfway to base; antemedian fascia white, edged brown; lunule yellow; median area evenly scaled dark brown; five eye-spots separated by silver studs, narrowly surrounded with yellow; a clear white submarginal band.</p><p>Foreleg of male with dense blackish brown scales on first and second tarsi; remainder of legs pale straw.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 36) Venulae strong, divergent.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 58) Hair pencils about twice length of 7th segment. Uncus twice length of gnathos; valva spatulate, length about 8 times width. Aedeagus with a small cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 81) Ductus bursae fairly short; corpus bursae with sclerotised spinose patch extending for four-fifths of its length, the remaining one-fifth at the anterior end is narrower.</p><p>Material examined. Thorax pale fuscous mixed ochreous.</p><p>Forewing base fuscous; antemedian fascia whitish suffused with yellow, outwardly edged fuscous; middle section of costa yellow mixed fuscous; median zone with dark fuscous scales most dense in middle; first strigula yellow on costa, inwardly edged fuscous; second strigula also inwardly edged fuscous, lower two-thirds leaden; terminal area yellow; tornal spot curved and pointed towards disc, shining leaden; terminal cilia with fuscous scales, a white wedge above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base white mixed fuscous; tornal spot silver grey followed by a yellow streak from dorsum; subbasal fascia brownish; antemedian fascia fuscous enclosing whitish lunule; median zone irregularly scattered dark brown scales; submarginal line strong, irregular; five distinct eye-spots, each with silver stud on inner side, yellow against termen, a large silver spot before first eye-spot. Legs straw, dark brown above on tibia and tarsi.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 44) Venulae diverging anteriorly with a small protrusion near the tympanal organs, venula media short.</p><p>Male genitalia not known.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 87) Corpus bursae only moderately long, like a long balloon, signa extending for three quarters of its length, at anterior end a strongly scobinate band, becoming weaker posteriorly.</p><p>Material examined. Wingspan 12–13mm. Head ochreous white; labial palpus terminal segment longer than second, ochreous mixed fuscous; second segment fuscous; antenna pale fuscous. Thorax pale straw.</p><p>Forewing base fuscous mixed ochreous; subbasal fascia broad, white, suffused ochreous towards outer edge; antemedian fascia narrow, irregular, brown outwardly edged whitish; median zone fairly evenly scaled dark brown, clearly bounded by a curved line, some dark brown scaling between this and costa; first strigula white, indistinct; second strigula clearly edged fuscous, especially on outside, lower third leaden; terminal area yellow; curved tornal spot leaden, narrowly separated from median zone; terminal line broken, fuscous cilia similarly interrupted, white above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base fuscous; subbasal fascia broad, white; antemedian fascia fuscous joining silver metallic spot on dorsum and enclosing whitish discal spot; median zone with dark brown scales fairly evenly spread but tending to be arranged in radial streaks; subterminal line pale fuscous, often obsolete in terminal half of wing; five eye-spots joined by shining grey studs around which some yellow suffusion; terminal cilia fuscous. Abdomen and legs pale straw; forelegs with tibia and first tarsus fuscous above, tarsi of ♂ thickened with dense scales.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 45): Venulae secundae evenly curved, divergent; venula media very short; tympanus with lobe extended anteriorly.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 66): Abdomen with hair pencils just over half length of abdomen. Valva simple, slender, parallel sided, length 5x width; gnathos les than half uncus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 86): ductus bursae wide, half length of corpus bursae; corpus long and slender with signa scarcely distinguishable.</p><p>Diagnosis. Very similar to N. nigristrtata (Hampson) from which it differs by the presence of a partial submarginal line in the hindwing, also by the interrupted terminal line of the forewing which makes the terminal cilia appear almost chequered.</p><p>Derivation. from the type locality Tari.</p><p>Material examined. Head brownish ochreous; labial palpus terminal segment ochreous, longer than second; second segment clothed with brown scales; antenna fulvous; thorax mixed brown and ochreous.</p><p>Forewing base brown; costa brown from base to first strigula; antemedian fascia straw, edged dark brown; median zone evenly suffused brown; first strigula yellowish near costa, inwardly white; second strigula white, yellowish on costa, lower third leaden; terminal area straw, deep orange between strigulae; tornal spot silver-grey, crescent-shaped; terminal cilia with fuscous scales, white above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base brown; subbasal fascia white; tornal spot long, silver-grey, followed by deep orange streak from dorsum halfway across wing; a further elongate silver-grey spot between this streak and eye-spot 1; antemedian fascia brown enclosing yellow lunule; median zone thickly scaled dark brown with strong straight dorsal edge; a broad fuscous submarginal line; five eye-spots separated by silver-grey spots, surrounded by an area of pale straw. Legs ochreous.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 47): venulae secundae almost parallel, curved outwards at each end; venula media about half length of venulae secundae.</p><p>Male genitalia: unknown.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 89): ostial chamber very narrow, ductus bursae half length of corpus bursae, narrow; corpus bursae "sock"-shaped, signum a broad spinose patch extending from anterior end along two-thirds length of corpus bursae.</p><p>Material examined. Distinguished by the S-shaped outer margin of the medial area of the forewing, together with the dark leaden colour of the dense scaling and subterminal line of the hindwing.</p><p>Derivation. after my former wife Fiona who endured my studies.</p><p>Distribution. Mt. Rossel, Rossel Is.</p><p>Nymphicula insulalis sp. n.</p><p>Description of imago (fig. 22). Wingspan 15mm. Head whitish; labial palpus whitish, terminal segment longer than second; second with long brownish scales; antennae, thorax and abdomen whitish mixed pale brown.</p><p>Forewing with costa brown to first strigula; base to antemedian fascia mixed brownish and whitish; median zone thinly scaled brown; first strigula yellowish in costal third, white dorsally; second strigula whitish costally, leaden grey beneath; terminal area yellowish, heavily suffused brown; tornal spot leaden, connected to brown marking bordering median zone.</p><p>Hindwing base brown; subbasal fascia white, outwardly yellow toward dorsum; small silver grey tornal spot; antemedian fascia brown, irregular; lunule whitish; median zone irregularly scaled dark brown, clearly edged dorsally; a clear parallel subdorsal line; white between subdorsal line and eye-spots with occasional dark brown scales; four eye-spots, 1 and 4 enlarged, each with a shining metallic grey stud on inner side, 4 containing two; orange between eye-spots and termen.</p><p>Posterior edge of thorax of male with hair pencils, whitish at base becoming dark grey.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 48): Venulae secundae long, almost parallel except divergent near tympanal organs; venula media almost as long as venulae secundae. Tympanum bluntly angled at anterior end.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 68): Abdomen with hair pencil half its length; a further pair of scent organs on eighth segment half the length of the segment. Valva simple, termen rounded; length 3.5x width; gnathos half length of uncus. Aedeagus with cornutus a long thorn with a shorter thorn appressed to it at about half its length.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 90): Ostial chamber long and narrow; ductus bursae slightly swollen, slightly longer than corpus bursae; corpus bursae "sock-shaped" with a dentate patch running along its length.</p><p>Material examined. Head brownish; labial palpus terminal segment whitish; second segment with dark brown scales beneath; antenna ochreous, dark scales on segmental joints; thorax mixed brown and whitish.</p><p>Forewing base white; subbasal fascia dark brown; antemedian fascia white; median zone irregularly scaled dark brown, with white on dorsum before tornus; terminal area orange, suffused dark brown; first strigula white; second strigula leaden with white triangle on costa; terminal line blackish; cilia scaled fuscous.</p><p>Hindwing basal area white with elongate dark brown spot; antemedian fascia brown, irregular, preceded in dorsal half by a yellow spot; tornal spot elongate, silver-grey; a yellow band between it and wing margin; lunule yellow, ringed dark brown; median zone much reduced with a few dark brown scales; subterminal band of creamy yellow, edged above with brown; 4–5 confluent eye-spots, each with a shining grey stud; 3–4 orange spots between them and termen.</p><p>Legs pale straw, darker near joints; foreleg of male with blackish scaling on tarsus.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 49): Venulae secundae weak, divergent; venula media about half length of venulae secundae. Tympanum bluntly pointed at anterior end.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 69): Abdomen with hair pencils 0.4x length of abdomen. Valva long and narrow, length 6x width; gnathos 0.4x uncus. Aedeagus narrow, one long cornutus finely divided arising from a broader sclerotised plate.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 91): Ostial chamber long and narrow; ductus bursae half length of corpus bursae; signum comprising a dentate strip from ductus along three quarters of its length.</p><p>Material examined. Head whitish, crown mixed brown; labial palpus with terminal segment yellowish white, longer than second; second segment clothed with brown scales; antenna pale brownish; thorax mixed brown and whitish.</p><p>Forewing base brown, paler dorsally; antemedian fascia indistinct, whitish; an oblique dark fuscous streak beneath costa; median zone triangular, fairly evenly scaled dark fuscous; terminal area ochreous but dark brown between strigulae; first strigula white edged brown; second strigula white becoming silver-grey in dorsal half; tornal spot silver-grey; terminal line brown; cilia with fuscous scales, white above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base white mixed fuscous; subbasal fascia white; antemedian line irregular, fuscous, preceded by a diffuse yellow spot in dorsal half; tornal spot small, silver-grey; median zone reduced, bounded dorsally by a fuscous line; subterminal line fuscous enclosing ochreous area around four eye-spots, each with a sliver-grey spot on the inner side, eye-spot 1 with another in middle; Legs whitish ochreous, male with dark scales on first and second tarsus. Male with black hair pencil on posterior surface of thorax, adjacent to tympanal organs on the abdomen.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 50): venula media as long as venulae secundae</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 70): Coremata twice as long as seventh segment. A pair of club-shaped scales at base of eighth segment, and a pair of small coremata bands in the centre. Valva short and broad, parallel sided; length 3x breadth. Wingspan 10–12mm. Head whitish; labial palpus terminal segment whitish, much longer than second; second segment brown; antenna brownish white; thorax and abdomen pale brown.</p><p>Forewing base brown; antemedian fascia whitish; median zone lightly scattered with brown scales; first strigula white, becoming ochreous towards costa; second strigula white in costal half, ochreous towards costa, leaden dorsally; terminal area orange, but heavily edged brown around all markings; tornal spot large, leaden, extended towards disc; terminal cilia fuscous, whitish above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base brown; a white subbasal fascia; antemedian fascia brown with some yellow coloration near dorsum; medial zone irregularly scattered with brown scales, in the midst of it roughly forming a double line parallel to the dorsum, the inner line sharply angled back at apex parallel to costa; four eyespots separated by shining leaden studs; a further small leaden spot in the midst of eye-spot 4; orange between studs and termen; terminal cilia with a strong fuscous line.</p><p>Foreleg of male with first tarsus covered in brown scales; second tarsus white beneath, dark brown scales above; third tarsus brown scaled; fourth and fifth whitish. Legs of female pale straw. A blackish hair pencil on the thorax of male where it abuts the tympanal organs on the abdomen.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 51): venulae secundae almost parallel, but suddenly divergent close to tympanal organs; venula media about half length of venulae secundae. Pons tympani narrow.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 71): abdomen with hair pencils half the length of the abdomen, and additional pair of scent organs arising the eighth abdominal segment. Valva simple, length = 4x width; gnathos half as long from as uncus. Aedagus as long as valva, a single slender cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 93): ductus bursae equal in length to corpus bursae; signum a broad dentate patch extending along the length of the corpus bursae.</p><p>Material examined. Holotype ♀ NEW HEBRIDES | Aneityum | Red Crest, 1200ft | 3m NE of Aneigauhat | 3 l or iv.1955 | L.E. Cheesman. + 52 paratypes with same data (BMNH), including Pyralidae slide No. 17751 ♂, BMNH Pyralidae slide No. 17750 ♀. 25 further specimens from New Hebrides: Sarto, W.Sarto, Banks Is., Malekula, Efate, Tanna &amp; Erromanga. 2 specimens in BMH.</p><p>Diagnosis. Distinguished by the broad separation of the subterminal lines of the hindwing from the terminal eye-spots.</p><p>Derivation. after the late Evelyn Cheesman who collected much valuable material from the South Pacific.</p><p>Distribution. Pl. 136 fig. 10.</p><p>Type locality: Fiji (Vitu).</p><p>Redescription of imago (fig. 26). Wingspan 14–16mm. Head ochreous; collar orange; antenna &amp; scape ochreous; labial palpus terminal segment ochreous, twice length of second which is irrorate fuscous and densely scaled. Thorax orange mixed white and fuscous.</p><p>Forewing: extreme base whitish; basal area fuscous mixed orange; antemedian band broad, orange, not quite reaching costa, bordered inwardly whitish in outer part; a dark longitudinal streak above dorsum; first strigula broad, cream towards costa, edged brown; second strigula edged dark fuscous except towards costa; costa cream to apex; tornal spot a curved wedge; termen indented above tornus; terminal cilia fuscous, with a dark fuscous line.</p><p>Hindwing: base fuscous; subbasal fascia white; antemedian band narrow broad, orange in dorsal half; lunule white; median area narrow; two bold dark fuscous submarginal lines, the inner one bent around apex and back along costa; much dark fuscous scaling between lines and eye-spots; five eye-spots, just separate; steel blue metallic spots between them and in middle of first; metallic tornal spot adjacent to first eye-spot. Abdomen pale orange. Legs ochreous, second tarsus of male thickened with pale creamy hairs.</p><p>Abdomen: tympanal organs with venulae widely divergent; venula media absent or very short. Male with hair pencils just over twice length of seventh segment; coremata pads at base of eighth segment.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 52): Venulae secundae strong, extending from anterior edge of eighth segment; venula media absent or very short. Tympanum produced anteriorly into a long lobe.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 72): valva length 4.5 x width. Aedeagus with single cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 94): ductus bursae shorter than corpus bursae; corpus ovate, signum a broad finely spinose patch half as long as corpus.</p><p>Material examined. Holotype and 9 specimens from Fiji, Viti Levu, Suva including. ♂ BMNH Pyralidae slide No. 17740, ♀ BMNH Pyralidae slide No. 17739 (BMNH).</p><p>Diagnosis. Very similar to N. cyanolitha but darker and richer in colour, both the yellow and black markings. In the Male genitalia the valvae are broader and the cornutus in the aedeagus is long and strong.</p><p>Distribution. Fiji.</p><p>Redescription of imago (for consistency within this paper) (fig. 27). Wingspan 13–15mm. Head ochreous mixed pale brown; labial palpus terminal segment longer than second, pale ochreous; second segment covered with brown scales. Thorax and abdomen ochreous.</p><p>Forewing base brown; subbasal fascia white; antemedian fascia yellow outwardly edged brown; medial zone evenly scattered with brown scales; terminal area orange; strigulae edged brown; first strigula white, ochreous on costa; second strigula leaden in dorsal half, tornal spot shining leaden, large; terminal cilia fuscous, whitish above tornus.</p><p>Hindwing base brown; subbasal fascia white; antemedian fascia yellow dorsally, a silver grey tornal spot; lunule yellow heavily edged brown; median zone evenly scattered except for a well defined transverse band of white edged brown on each side; more or less parallel with termen; four eye-spots, separated by orange, each containing a shining leaden spot; eye-spot 5 with two such spots.</p><p>Tympanal organs (fig. 53): venulae secundae curved outwardly, extending and diverging from tympanal organs almost to the anterior edge of the seventh abdominal segment. Tympanum sharply curved at anterior end.</p><p>Male genitalia (fig. 73): abdomen with hair pencils 0.45 x length of abdomen, darker at posterior end; an additional pair of scent organs on the eighth abdominal segment half the length of the segment. Valva simple, length = 3 x width; gnathos just less than half length of uncus. Aedeagus with a double cornutus.</p><p>Female genitalia (fig. 95): antrum long; collar followed by bulb at beginning of ductus bursae; corpus bursae equal in length to ductus, "sock"-shaped, with a broad spinose patch along its length around the "heel".</p><p>Material examined. 17 specimens in BMNH, Fiji. ♂ BMNH Pyralidae slides 17786, 17825 &amp; 17858, ♀ BMNH Pyralidae slide No.17787</p><p>Diagnosis. Differs from the similar N. australis in its generally paler coloration and the yellow subbasal fascia of the hindwing does not meet the dorsum.</p><p>Distribution.
