The holotype and paratypes of Boucardicus culminans lack microtunnels. We could see the exact position of the operculum indicated by a thickening, and we have seen no opening on the inner side of the thickening.

Emberton (2002: 49, pl. 3, fig. 12) and Emberton and Pearce (1999: 351, figs 9, 40, 52, 54, 62) figured specimens under this species, but the illustrated specimens probably do not belong to A. culminans, as they possess a prominent swelling anterior to the constriction and the shell colouration lacks spiral bands. Instead, they likely belong to a Boucardicus species (although I have only examined photos in that paper).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03868793FF98F41F16DE6DF5FC67FEC3	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. A holotype, a paratype in good condition, and 3 juvenile paratypes were examined. In the holotype there is a small white circle just behind the thickening, and it resembles an opening for the microtunnels. However, this was just a correction of the shell after some damage, which is visible also from the outside. The paratype clearly had no sign of an opening behind the thickening.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03868793FF9EF41F16DE6A6CFD00FCD4	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
