0387FF1CFFCEFF9B53E2FD42E0E8CA85.taxon	discussion	Comments. This species shares a set of features with M. robusta Kröber, 1913, such as abdomen bearing scale - like setae and legs homogeneously brown to black. The lack of information on the male terminalia of M. robusta makes its distinction from other species somewhat difficult, and misidentifications have occurred as a result (Winterton & Woodley 2009). Unfortunately, the type of M. robusta, a specimen from Paraguay, has been destroyed and all records of this species outside the country of origin are considered uncertain (Winterton & Woodley 2009). Based on the description of Kröber (1913), M. barbata sp. nov. can be distinguished from M. robusta by the pattern of spots on the abdomen, wing coloration and body size, as presented in the identification key in this paper. Additionally, the presence of elongated and conspicuous thin bristles at the ventral margin of the mouth opening was not reported in the description of M. robusta and could represent one more character to help distinguish between these two species.	en	Ale-Rocha, Rosaly, Limeira-De-Oliveira, Francisco (2021): New species and new record of Neotropical Metatrichia Coquillett (Diptera: Scenopinidae). 0387FF1CFFCCFF9D53E2FCAAE2D9CF05.taxon	discussion	Comments. Metatrichia brunneipennis sp. nov. resembles M. bulbosa by the sparse scale-like setae on thorax but differs from it in the abdomen without scale-like setae and wing brownish. Furthermore, this species shares with M. venezuelensis the abdomen without scale-like setae but can be distinguished from it by the coloration of the legs, as discussed in the key, and by the characters of the male terminalia. This species has been the most abundantly collected in northern and northeastern Brazil and was initially misidentified as M. robusta (Rafael & Ale 1983; Winterton & Woodley 2009). The seasonal adult population fluctuation of Metatrichia brunneipennis sp. nov. (misidentified as M. robusta) at the Amazon Basin in northern South America revealed higher populational density during the dry season (July to December) (Rafael & Ale 1983).	en	Ale-Rocha, Rosaly, Limeira-De-Oliveira, Francisco (2021): New species and new record of Neotropical Metatrichia Coquillett (Diptera: Scenopinidae). 0387FF1CFFC9FF9053E2FF2EE298CCD6.taxon	discussion	Comments. M. bulbosa was previously registered in the United States and Northern Mexico. It is being registered for the first time for South America, in Brazil. Although the specimens studied show small variations in the color of the knob, legs, and wing, they coincide with the species of M. bulbosa in the morphology of terminalia (Personal communication by Shaun Winterton who kindly compared the photos and drawings of the Amazonian specimens with the identified material deposited at the CSCA).
