Vis Island in cave (Müller 1909); Vora Špilja (Nonveiller et al. 2000); Kraljičina špila, island Vis, vicinity of Oključna (Hlaváč et al. 2008).</p><p>New records. 3 ƋƋ (forme gracilipes): Croatia, Vis isl., Kostirna, Špilja kod Vlore; 1 ♂: 19.10. 2007, leg. H. Cvitanović ; 1♂ (forme inflatipes): 29.4. 2013, leg. B. Jalžić; 1 ♂ (forme gracilipes): 27.4. 2015, leg. B. Jalžić. (PCPH).</p><p>Redescription. Body reddish-brown, antennae, maxillary palpi and legs slightly lighter, length 1.67–1.80 mm, max width 0.54–0.59 mm. Pubescence on head, pronotum and elytra gold, long, sparse and recumbent. Head 1.15– 1.25 times as long as wide. Frons with deep, frontal triangular impression between antennal tubercles; rostrum triangular anteriorly, with sharp median projection. Vertex flat, with well-defined median longitudinal carina reaching frontal triangular impression; frontal fovea absent, vertexal foveae large, their diameter equal to distance between them. Eyes completely atrophied. Maxillary palpi normally developed, with small, sparse tubercles on external part of apex of palpomeres II and III, terminal palpomere 0.23 mm long, about 0.33 times as long as wide. Gular region with shallow impression, anterior third with transverse elevated carina. Antennae about 0.73–0.75 mm long, scape long, simple without any modification, slightly extended to apex, 2.40–2.80 times as long as pedicel; pedicel simple, 1.75 times as long as wide; antennomeres III–VII elongate, III 1.3 times as long as IV, IV– V subequal in length, slightly longer than subequal antennomeres VI and VII, VIII smallest, quadrate, IX quadrate, about 1.4 times as wide as VIII, X 1.2 times as long as wide and 1.4 0–1.50 times as long as IX, terminal antennomere largest, fusiform, about twice as long as wide. Pronotum 1.05–1.15 as long as wide and 1.20–1.40 times as long as head, widest in anterior third, with well-defined antebasal sulcus connecting large lateral foveae, median fovea absent. Elytra 1.10–1.20 times as wide as long, slightly convex, with two basal foveae and sutural entire striae, discal striae absent. Legs robust, anterior tibiae with deep preapical indentation on inner margin, II and III simple, hind femora very thick (forme inflatipes) or slender (forme gracilipes). Aedeagus (Fig. 1) elongate, 0.40 mm long, 2.85 times as long as wide, narrowed to apex of apical lobe, with three short preapical setae, basal bulb 1.20 times as long as apical lobe, ventrolateral foramen slightly projecting, phallobase diaphragm oval, large about 1.6 of length of median lobe, endophallus bifurcate, sharply pointed at apex.</p><p>Sexual dimorphism. Females unknown to the authors.</p><p>Differential diagnosis. Bryaxis issensis differs from all other anophthalmous Bryaxis by its simple, Tychobythinus -like shaped scape, simple elongate pedicel, and shape of the aedeagus.</p><p>Biology. All specimens were found in deep areas of the cave.</p><p>Distribution. Bedek; 5 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀: same data as holotype but collected by M. Lukić, H. Billandžija, M. Pavlek; (CNHM, NMHNS, PCPH); 2 ♂♂: same data as holotype but on 22.10.2015 and collected by B. Jalžić (PCPH); 2 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀: Croatia, Mljet Isl., Blato, Špilja 1, Na Brodskoj Gori, 11.IV.2015, leg. B. Jalžic. (NMHNS, PCPH) .</p><p>Description. Body (Fig. 2 a) reddish-brown, antennae, maxillary palpi, and legs also reddish-brown, slightly lighter than body, length 1.90–2.10 mm, max width 0.70–0.80 mm. Pubescence on head, pronotum and elytra gold, short, dense, and recumbent. Head 1.10–1.20 times as long as wide. Frons with deep, triangular impression between antennal tubercles; rostrum triangular anteriorly, with sharp median projection. Vertex flat, with strong median longitudinal carina, reaching frontal triangular impression; frontal fovea absent, vertexal foveae small, their diameter smaller then the distance between them. Eyes reduced, with 5–6 facets each. Maxillary palpi normally developed, with small, sparse tubercles on external part of apex of palpomeres II–III, and the external part of the base of IV, terminal palpomere 0.24 mm long, about 0.33 times as long as wide. Gular region with shallow impression, anterior margin elevated, with one short tooth on each side. Antennae about 0.80–0.85 mm long, scape (Fig. 2 b) simple, lacking modification, 2.85–3.10 times as long as pedicel; pedicel 1.40 times as long as wide, simple (Fig. 2 b); antennomeres III–VII elongate, subequal in length, III as long as IV, VIII smallest, as long as wide, IX quadrate, about 1.25 times as wide as VIII, X 1.2 times as long as wide and 1.40–1.50 times as long as IX, terminal antennomere large and fusiform about 2.25 times as long as wide. Pronotum 1.05–1.10 as long as wide and 1.33–1.40 times as long as head, widest in anterior third, with well-defined antebasal sulcus connecting large lateral foveae, median fovea absent. Elytra 1.04–1.07 times as wide as long, slightly convex, with two basal foveae and sutural entire striae, discal striae absent. Legs slender, tibiae I with deep preapical indentation on mesal margin, tibiae II and III simple. Aedeagus (Fig. 2 c–d) 0.44–0.45 mm long, 2.40 times as long as wide, narrowed to apex of apical lobe, with three short preapical setae, endophallus complex (as in Fig. 2 c).</p><p>Sexual dimorphism. Female similar to male in general appearance, but the scape is simple, the gular region lacks depression or other modification, and tibiae I are simple and lack indentation. All available males belong to the forme inflatipes</p><p>Differential diagnosis. Bryaxis bedeki belongs to the Bryaxis troglodytes- species group as defined by Nonveiller et al. (2003). It shares the same shape of the scape and pedicel as well as antennomeres IX and X (slightly wider than long) as Bryaxis krilei Hlaváč, 2008, and is closely related to this species. However, the new species differs from all others of the species group in the shape of the aedeagus.</p><p>Biology. All specimens were found in caves.</p><p>Etymology. Holotype: Croatia: 1 Ƌ: Croatia, Biokovo, near špilja Ledenica, sifting in forest close to cave entrance, 11.10.2014, leg. P. Hlaváč (PCPH) .</p><p>Description. Body (Fig. 3 a) pale reddish-brown, antennae, maxillary palpi and legs slightly lighter, length 1.56 mm, max width 0.62 mm. Pubescence on head, pronotum and elytra gold, short, dense, and suberected. Head 0.8 times as long as wide. Frons with, shallow, triangular impression between antennal tubercles; rostrum oval anteriorly. Vertex flat, with thin median longitudinal carina, reaching frontal triangular impression; frontal fovea absent, vertexal foveae very small, their diameter smaller than the distance between them. Eyes with medium size, with about 15 facets each. Maxillary palpi normally developed, with small, sparse tubercles on external part of apex of palpomeres II and III, terminal palpomere 0.20 mm long, about 0.33 times as long as wide. Gular region flat, without modifications. Antennae about 0.63 mm long, scape (Fig. 3 b) with very small, flat tubercle on the apex, 2.40–2.80 times as long as pedicel; pedicel simple (Fig. 3 b), 1.5 times as long as wide; antennomeres III–VII elongate, III 1.6 times as long as IV, IV–V subequal in length, slightly longer than subequal antennomeres VI and VII, VIII smallest, as long as wide, IX quadrate, about 1.25 times as wide as VIII, X 0.7 times as long as wide and 1.25 times as long as IX, terminal antennomere largest, fusiform, about twice as long as wide. Pronotum 0.9 as long as wide and 1.35 times as long as head, widest in anterior third, with thin antebasal sulcus connecting large lateral foveae, median fovea absent. Elytra 1.06 times as wide as long, slightly convex, with two basal foveae and entire sutural striae, discal striae absent. Legs slender, tibia I with shalow preapical indentation on inner margin, II simple, III with small internal apical spur. Aedeagus (Fig. 3 c–d) elongate, 0.39 mm long, 2,80 times as long as wide, strongly narrowed to apex of apical lobe, with three short preapical setae, endophallus with two thin, separated, equal, apically sharply pointed sclerotized pieces.</p><p>Sexual dimorphism. Females unknown.</p><p>Differential diagnosis. Bryaxis biokovensis is very distinctive in the shape of the scape, gular region and the aedeagus, and at present cannot be clearly assigned to any other known species.</p><p>Biology. Found from leaf litter samples in forest litter near the entrance of cave Ledenica.</p><p>Etymology.
