Head: vertex sulcate; slightly constricted behind eyes; projection present at base of antenna. Antenna: with 11 antennomeres; antennomere 11 sharply pointed at apex; antennomeres 3 to 11 laterally compressed; 7 to 11 closely articulated. Pronotum: trapezoidal or obconical, widest at base. Elytron: lateral margin dentate; exterior apical angle rounded, dentate; apical margin strongly dentate; with 10 rows of punctures, scutellar row present or absent; 4 costae, 1, 2, and 4 complete, 3 visible at humerus and apex. Male genitalia: adaegus curved, pointed at apex.</p><p>Host plants: Canavalia, Cassia, Cymbosema, Dioclea, Inga, Mucuna, Phaseolus (Fabaceae); Solanum (Solanaceae); Heliconia (Heliconiaceae); Flagellaria (Flagellariaceae); Cocos (Arecaceae); Freycinetia, Pandanus (Pandanaceae); Pleomele (Agavaceae) (Jolivet &amp; Hawkeswood 1995).</p><p>Biology. Subelongate; yellowish; head, antennae, and legs (except base of femora, yellow) black; pronotum and elytra with black markings; pro-, meso-, and metasterna yellowish medially, black laterally; abdominal sterna yellowish laterally, sterna 1 and 2 yellowish medially, remainder black. Head: front trisulcate; interocular space strongly produced, obtuse, upper surface with short longitudinal carina; frons punctate, not projecting. Antenna: ½ body length; filiform; antennomeres 1 and 2 subequal in length and width, transverse; 3 and 4 subequal in length, elongate, slightly sulcate; 5 to 10 transverse, decreasing in length; 11 very acutely pointed; 1–7 glabrous, 8–11 setose. Pronotum: transverse, subconical; lateral margin obliquely converging from base to apex, bisinuate; transverse depression behind disc at base; torulose at base on each side; coarsely, irregularly punctate, punctures deeper laterally; pronotal length 1.1–1.3 mm (n=20); pronotal width 1.4–1.6 mm. Scutellum: quadrate; alutaceous. Elytron: narrowly oblong; parallel-sided; finely serrulate laterally; apices conjointly rounded, coarsely denticulate, with 2 or 3 large teeth on each side; with 10 regular rows of punctures, scutellar row absent; intervals elevated, intervals 2 and 4 strongly costate, 8 moderately costate, 6 costate at base and apex; elytral length 5.7–6.4 mm; elytral width 1.9–2.4 mm. This species is distinguished by the elytra without a scutellar row; by the vertex of the head being trisulcate; by antennomeres 1 and 2 being transverse, with antennomeres 3–4 being subequal in length; and by the lateral margin of the pronotum being bisinuate.</p><p>Host plant. Reared from Cassia fruticosa Mill. (Caesalpiniaceae) (Hespenheide &amp; Dang 1999). Adults collected on Centrosema macrocarpum Benth. Head, antennae, and scutellum black; pronotum yellow, with a medial black band attenuate anteriorly and two narrow black lateral bands; elytra orangish-yellow with black anchor-like marking along suture on basal ½, apical ¼ black; legs black, base of the femora yellow (there are forms with the femora entirely yellow and others with the femora entirely black); venter black, with yellow maculae. Head: with faint medial sulcus; slightly depressed between eyes; vertex alutaceous; frons punctate, not projecting. Antenna: antennomeres 1 and 2 subglobose; 3–4 cylindrical; 5–10 transverse; 11 pointed at apex; 1–4 slightly compressed laterally. Pronotum: trapezoidal, surface covered with sparse, irregularly distributed large punctures, with a shallow longitudinal medial sulcus; lateral margin sinuate, constricted behind head; anterior angle with small tooth; posterior angle rounded; basal impression present; pronotal length 0.9–1.3 mm (n=20); pronotal width 1.3–1.8 mm. Scutellum: subcordate; alutaceous. Elytron: subparallel; lateral margin dentate; apices strongly dentate, individually rounded; with 10 puncture rows; scutellar row absent; intervals 2, 4, and 8 costate for entire length, interval 6 costate at base and apex; elytral length 5.8–6.4 mm; elytral width 2.4–2.9 mm. Venter: pro-, meso-, metasterna, abdominal sterna 1 and 2 orange in center, black laterally; remainder of abdomen entirely black; abdominal sterna with row of punctures at apex. Leg: femur and tibia punctate. Length: 7.4–9.2 mm.</p><p>Pupa. (from Uhmann 1953). Color bright brown, darkens with age; length less than that of adult. Head: not tuberculate; vertex with fine setae, 1 near antennal base and 2 nd near anterior margin of pronotum; labrum broadly triangular. Antenna: antennomeres distinct until apex, thickened after antennomere 5. Pronotum: with 3 setae on anterior ½; middle ⅓ with fine setae; basal ⅓ with a pair of strong setae in posterior angles; lateral margin on left with 3 setae, on right with 2 setae. Elytron: with ten rows of distinct punctures; costae distinct; apical margin dentate, with minute punctures each with seta. Venter: abdominal sterna 2–7 with broken transverse ridge and transverse impression in middle; sterna 4–6 with transverse row of six large cone-like setae in middle, setae curved; sternum 7 with transverse row of 8 cone-like setae; sternum 8 with four slender cones, 2 in middle and one in each side angle; sternum 9 with 2 slender cones in each side angle. Leg: with two large setae before apex and short seta on outer margin; ring of 4 setae on apex.</p><p>Remarks. This species can be distinguished by the elytra without a scutellar row; by the vertex of the head having a faint medial sulcus; by antennomeres 1 and 2 being subglobose; and by the irregularly punctate disc of the pronotum.</p><p>Host plant. Head, antennae, scutellum, and legs (except base of femora) black; pronotum and elytra orangish-yellow with black markings; venter yellowish medially, black laterally, abdominal sterna 4–5 totally black. Head: vertex trisulcate; medial carina present; clypeus punctate, not projecting. Antenna: reaching to humerus; antennomere 1 subglobose, 2x length of 2; 2 transverse; 3–5 cylindrical, 3 slightly longer than 4 or 5; 6–10 transverse, 11 longer than others; 11 acutely pointed at apex. Pronotum: obconic; widest at base; convex; lateral margin bisinuate, slightly angulate in middle; anterior angle with small tooth; posterior angle acute; transverse basal impression present; disc finely, sparsely punctate, with faint medial sulcus; sides strongly, more densely punctate; pronotal length 1.4–1.6 mm (n=13); pronotal width 2.1–2.3 mm. Scutellum: quadrate; alutaceous. Elytron: with 10 rows of punctures, scutellar row absent; lateral margin sparsely dentate on basal ½, then more strongly dentate; exterior apical angle rounded, with two large teeth; apical margin strongly dentate; sutural angle slightly emarginate; humerus angulate, slightly produced; intervals 2, 4, and 8 costate, costa 2 strongly produced basally; interval 6 costate at base and apex; elytral length 8.6–9.0 mm; elytral width 3.3–3.4 mm. Venter: prosternum smooth; meso- and metasterna smooth medially, punctate laterally; abdominal sterna with scattered punctures. Leg: femur and tibia punctate; tibia with row of setae on inner margin and at apex. Total length: 10.9–11.1 mm.</p><p>Etymology. From angulus (Latin= corner or angle) for the distinctly angulate lateral margin of the pronotum.</p><p>Remarks. This species can be distinguished by the elytra without a scutellar row and having costae 1 and 2 not united near the apex; by the vertex of the head being trisulcate; and by having antennomere 1 subglobose and 2 transverse.</p><p>Host plant. Pronotum: trapezoidal; lateral margin bisinuate; anterior angle with small tooth; posterior angle acute; transverse basal impression present; virtually impunctate; with medial longitudinal black vitta; pronotal length 0.9–1.3 mm (n=20); pronotal width 1.3–1.4 mm. Scutellum:</p><p>subcordate; black; alutaceous. Elytron: lateral margin dentate; apices strongly dentate, cojointly rounded; 10 strong puncture rows plus short scutellar row; tricostate; bulbous black macula at base along suture and apical quarter black; elytral length 4.8–6.7 mm; elytral width 2.1–2.6 mm. Antenna: less than ½ body length; antennomere 1 large, subglobose; 2 transverse, short; 3–6 cylindrical, decreasing in length; 7– 10 transverse; 11 pointed at apex; 1–7 punctate, glabrous; 8–11 setose. Pronotum: transverse, convex; conic; lateral margin bisinuate; anterior angle with tooth; transverse basal impressions distinct; surface irregularly punctate, more dense laterally; pronotal length 1.1–1.4 mm (n=20); pronotal width 1.8–2.1 mm. Scutellum: subcordate; alutaceous. Pronotum orangish with medial stripe and lateral margins black; elytra with apical ¼ black and basal anchor-shaped black markings; venter black with orangish markings; pro-, meso-, and metasterna, and abdominal sterna 1–2 yellowish medially, black laterally; abdominal sterna 3–8 black; base of femora orange. Head: vertex with medial sulcus and sulcus on inner margin of each eye, frontal carina straight; clypeus with globose elevations. Antenna: reaching to humeri; slightly compressed laterally; antennomere 1 large, subglobose; 2 transverse, small; 3–4 cylindrical, elongate; 5 cylindrical shorter than 4; 6–10 transverse; 11 pointed at apex; 1–2 with scatter setae; 3–7 sulcate; 8–11 setose. Pronotum: obconic, convex; lateral margin slightly sinuate at base and apex; anterior angle with rounded tooth; punctures shallow, absent on disc; transverse basal impression distinct; with faint medial longitudinal sulcus; pronotal length 0.9–1.1 mm (n=7); pronotal width 1.4–1.7 mm. Head: vertex with medial sulcus plus sulcus on inner margin of each eye; frontal carina straight; clypeus rugose, with small elevations. Antenna: slightly compressed laterally; antennomere 1 subglobose, twice length of 2; 2 transverse; 3–4 cylindrical, subequal in length; 5–10 transverse; 11 pointed at apex. Pronotum: transverse; lateral margin slightly rounded, converging from base to apex, some specimens obsoletely angulate just before middle; anterior angle with tooth; transverse basal impression, with large, shallow punctures; lateral margin and discoidal vitta black; pronotal length 1.3–1.5 mm (n=20); pronotal width 2.1–2.4 mm. Blackwelder 1946: 728 (faunal list).</p><p>Oxychalepus trispinosis (Pic) . Papp 1953: 85 (catalog); Uhmann 1957a: 109 (catalog); Descarpentries &amp; Villiers 1959: 149 (types).</p><p>Description. Color: head and antennae black; pronotum and elytra orangish; elytra elytral apex more or less broadly black; abdomen reddish in part; femora at base reddish. Head: small; eyes close together. Antenna: filiform; apical antennomere pointed at apex. Elytron: exterior apical angle with large tooth; punctures rather quadrate. Total length: 7.0 mm. (from Pic 1931).</p><p>Remarks. The placement of this species is uncertain. I have not seen any specimen which can be assigned to this species based on the short description nor have I found any material identified to this species. Four requests for a loan of the types from the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle (Paris) (MNHN) went unanswered. Therefore I am treating this species as incertae sedis.</p><p>Host plant.
