Each forewing has a jugal lobe and in each hind wing a small cluster of stout setae immediately basal to the humeral vein. A forewing-hind wing coupling system is absent. The forewing anal cell (ac) is large and roughly triangular distally, with A1+2+3 diverging from the ambient vein (av) basally and converging distally to an insertion on av. Cu2 terminates on A1+2+3 at the intersection of A1+2+3 on av. Compound eyes of the adult of both sexes are glabrous. The female has flattened middle tarsi.</p><p>Description. The hind wing crossveins sc-r and r-rs are not coincident in their insertion on R, the insertions being separated by at least the length of crossvein r-rs. The female genitalia lack paired sclerotized projections internally.</p><p>Description. Wings (Figs. 17, 28): fwl = 16.5–20.5 mm; σ = 1.16 (N = 21). Fore-wings sub-hyaline, infuscate with mottling of yellow spots, shape typical for subfamily. Hind wings uniformly lightly infuscate, immaculate. Female genitalia (Figs. 19–20): In cleared specimens in lateral view (Fig. 19), abdominal segment IX anteriorly with strongly sloping lateral margins forming acute angle of approximately 45 with ventral sclerites; convex dorsum half as long as height of segment IX; in caudal view (Fig. 20), dorsum convex. Prominent articulation ventrolaterally between segment IX and segment X, with segments IX and X strongly sclerotized. Segment IX posteroventrolaterally with pair of small sclerotized ridges (sr), each bearing row of setae. In ventrocaudal view of cleared genitalia, horseshoe-shaped sclerite present in dorsal membrane of segment X, located medially between dorsal processes (dp) of segment X. Cleared specimens internally and ventrally with weakly to moderately sclerotized curtain of membrane projecting anterad.</p><p>Material examined. The female genitalia lack paired sclerotized projections internally.</p><p>Description. Wings (Figs. 1, 6, 18, 28): fwl = 9.2–11.0 mm; µ=10.2; σ = 1.16 (N = 26). Wings sub-hyaline, infuscate with light mottling, shape typical for subfamily. Female genitalia (Figs. 24–25): Segment IX (IX) in lateral view (Fig. 24) relatively short in its longitudinal dimension throughout its height; anterior margin sinuous; dorsum convex and about 1/8th as long as height of segment IX, produced as prominent bulge; in caudal view (Fig. 25) dorsum with vertex either flat or with distinct medial declivity. In caudal view (Fig. 25), segment IX of nearly uniform width, its sides slightly sinuous. Lateral view with little evidence of articulation between segments IX and X. Segment X (X) only lightly sclerotized. Ventral surface of segment IX with medially converging pair of lightly sclerotized plates, giving “V-like” or “W-like” appearance to ventral surface, these plates visible in both uncleared and cleared specimens (e.gon.VIII of Nielsen 1980, vulval scale of Nimmo 1987, vulvar scale of Schmid 1998). Pair of elliptical setal patches (sp) mediolaterally on posterior vertical face of dorsum of segment IX, setae in each patch in 2 rows, not convergent apically (Figs. 24–26).</p><p>Distribution. Widely distributed in the eastern United States and Canada, as far west as Wisconsin (Nimmo 1987), and south into the mountains of eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, northwestern South Carolina, and northeastern Georgia.</p><p>Material examined. Female genitalia (Figs. 21–23): Segment IX (IX) in lateral view (Fig. 21) relatively short in its longitudinal dimension throughout its height; anterior margin sinuous; dorsum about 1/5th as long as height of segment IX, produced as prominent angle dorsally; in caudal and internal views (Figs. 22, 23), dorsum with vertex convex; sides of segment IX with pronounced lateral bulge in basal 1/3rd; with paired, sigmoid, sclerotized rods inserting inside venter of segment IX. Prominent articulation ventrolaterally between segment IX and segment X (X), with segments IX and X strongly sclerotized. Pair of circular setal patches (sp) mediolaterally on posterior horizontal face of dorsum of segment IX, setae in 3 rows (Fig. 27).</p><p>Distribution. Narrowly distributed in the eastern United States, apparently restricted to the southern Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
