Members of the species-complex have the appearance common for the Barsine prominens speciesgroup. The main differences from other species of the species-group are in the male genitalia: in the B. zebrina species-complex distal costal process is robust, sacculus is well sclerotized, its dorsal surface is strongly dentate. In addition, in the majority of species juxta has a conical medial process (absent in B. navneetsinghi sp. nov.). The closest relative of the B. zebrina species-complex is B. radians (Moore, 1878) widespread in the Himalayan Region, but it is separated by its weak distal costal process and setose dorsal surface of sacculus.

Description. Adults. Small moths. Male antennae ciliate, female antennae filiform. Body creamy with admixture of numerous ochreous yellow hairs. Forewing ground color from whitish to yellowish creamy or pale yellow; pattern blackish, consists of large subbasal dot, angled and interrupted subbasal line consisting of three short strips, strongly curved, interrupted antemedial line consisting of three long strips, slightly curved medial line which can be interrupted ( B. pluma, B. navneetsinghi sp. nov., B. bucseki sp. nov.) or entire ( B. zebrina, B. subzebrina sp. nov.), discal spot, postmedial line strongly W-like dentate opposite the cell, and long lengthwise strokes on veins in outer part of wing; cilia creamy with black spots opposite veins. Ground color of hindwings varies from creamy white to pale yellow, with intense yellowish suffusion at anal margin; medial band thin, diffuse, slightly wavy, outer part of wing with intense blackish suffusion on veins; cilia from creamy white to pale yellow. Male genitalia. Uncus long, narrow, laterally flattened, slightly curved, apically pointed. Tuba analis broad, membranous; scaphium thin, weakly sclerotized; subscaphium as broad setose area. Tegumen short and medium broad; juxta medium broad, with large conical medial process (absent in B. navneetsinghi sp. nov.); vinculum robust, U-like. Valva long, with almost parallel margins, slightly narrowed apically; costa broad, well sclerotized; medial costal process robust, at broad base, moderately long, distally narrowed, apically tapered; distal costal process robust, dorsally directed; apical lobe of valva long and broad; sacculus well sclerotized, setose, with strongly dentate dorsal margin; distal saccular process present, varies in length and shape in different species. Aedeagus long and medium broad, slightly curved; vesica broad, globular, with medial diverticulum armed with field of small, but robust cornuti, and several small diverticula with scobination and granulation; basal plate of vesica ejaculatorius short, trigonal. Female genitalia. Papillae anales broad, rectangular with rounded edges; apophyses anteriores and posteriores of approximately equal length, long and thin. Postvaginal plate broad, V- or Tshaped; ostium bursae broad, with rugose membranous ventral margin; ductus bursae short, membranous. Corpus bursae sack-like, with dense spinulose scobination and small rounded signum with dentate surface; appendix bursae conical, curved, with dense spinulose scobination, situated latero-posteriorly.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/0398F33AFFA8341DFF59F8EBFBB5FB8A	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The species significantly varies in size (forewing length is 9–11 mm in males and 10–12 mm in females). B. subzebrina sp. nov. (Figs. 6–12) has no significant external differences from its closest relative B. zebrina (Figs. 1-5) and can be separated from it by the genitalia structures. The male genitalia of B. subzebrina sp. nov. (Figs. 31–34) are similar to those of B. zebrina (Figs. 27–30), but differ by the larger medial costal process, narrower distal costal process with much longer apico-lateral projection, narrower basal lobe of sacculus with evenly curved dorsal margin armed with larger dens, whereas in B. zebrina the medial costal process is smaller, the distal costal process is broader and has much smaller or absent apico-lateral projection, the basal lobe of sacculus is larger, trigonal, armed with smaller dens. The female genitalia of the two species are very similar, but in B. subzebrina sp. nov. (Fig. 43) the postvaginal plate is narrower, V-like, and the ostium bursae has deep concavity, whereas in B. zebrina (Fig. 42) the postvaginal plate is significantly broader, more or less T-like, and the ostium bursae has no concavity.

Distribution. The species is known from central and eastern Nepal, northeastern India (Sikkim, Meghalaya), and northern Myanmar (Kachin).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/0398F33AFFAA341AFF59FD42FDF8FE27	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. In the original description (Černý & Pinratana 2009), the holotype is cited as a male, but in fact it is a female (Fig. 13). 2. The type series of the species included also series of B. zebrina and B. bucseki sp. nov. In fact, only specimens from West and North Thailand with interrupted medial line are conspecific to the holotype. Specimens from South Thailand with an interrupted medial line belong to B. bucseki sp. nov., and specimens from West and North Thailand with entire medial line belong to B. zebrina . All three species differ clearly by the genitalia structures.

Diagnosis. Forewing length is 10–11 mm in males and 11–12 mm in females. B. pluma (Figs. 13–16) is similar externally to B. zebrina (Figs. 1–5) occurring in Thailand sympatrically with it, but can be separated by the not interrupted medial line. The male genitalia of B. pluma (Figs. 35, 36) differ from those of B. zebrina (Figs. 27–30) by the much larger medial costal process, weaker distal costal process, narrower basal lobe of sacculus having smoothly curved dorsal margin, and much longer distal saccular process with pointed apex; the female genitalia of B. pluma (Fig. 44) are very similar to those of B. zebrina (Fig. 42), but differ by the broader, T-shaped postvaginal plate (whereas in B. zebrina the postvaginal plate is narrower and V-shaped), and slightly smaller signum. The genital differences from B. bucseki sp. nov. are listed in the diagnosis of the latter.

Distribution. The species is widespread in Thailand (provinces Uthai Thani, Tak, Kanchanaburi, Lampang, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Phayao, Nan, Phetchabun, Sakhon Nakhon, Ubon Ratchatani) and Laos (provinces Phongsali, Luang Prabang, Xayaburi, Vientiane, Khammouan). The record of B. pluma for NE India (Kirti & Singh 2016) is erroneous and belongs to B. zebrina .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/0398F33AFFAE341BFF59FDB6FD60FC53	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Externally, the species (Figs. 17– 20) is similar to B. pluma (Figs. 13–16) due to its interrupted medial line, but differs by the slightly smaller size. The main differences are in the genitalia structures: in the male genitalia, B. bucseki sp. nov. (Figs. 37, 38) has broader medial costal process, more robust distal costal process, larger, trigonal basal lobe of sacculus, shorter distal saccular process with tapered tip, much larger basal diverticulum of vesica with stronger granulation, larger subapical diverticulum, and a field of scobination in the largest medial diverticulum, whereas in B. pluma (Figs. 35, 36) the medial costal process is significantly narrower, the distal costal process is much thinner, the trigonal basal lobe of sacculus is narrower, with more smoothly curved dorsal margin, the distal saccular process is significantly longer, slightly curved distally and pointed apically, the basal diverticulum of vesica is smaller, has weaker granulation, the subapical diverticulum is much smaller, and the largest medial diverticulum has a field of small, but robust cornuti; in the female genitalia, B. bucseki sp. nov. (Fig. 45) differs clearly from B. pluma (Fig. 44) by its much narrower, more or less V-like postvaginal plate, V-shaped ostium bursae with sclerotized margins, longer ductus bursae with ribbed sclerotization anteriorly, and much larger appendix bursae, whereas in B. pluma the postvaginal plate is much broader, T-like with lateral lobes curved posteriorly, the ductus bursae is shorter and evenly membranous, and the appendix bursae is much smaller.

Distribution. Externally, B. navneetsinghi sp. nov. (Figs. 21–24) is very similar to large specimens of the sympatric B. subzebrina sp. nov. (Figs. 6–12), and can be separated by the genitalia structures. The male genitalia of B. navneetsinghi sp. nov. (Figs. 39, 40) are surprisingly different from those of B. subzebrina sp. nov. (Figs. 31–34) by absence of medial process of juxta, larger vinculum, much narrower and curved medial costal process, much shorter distal costal process directed distally, stronger dentation of ventral margin of sacculus, apically pointed distal saccular process, and larger, spinelike cornuti in the largest medial diverticulum of vesica. In the male genitalia, B. navneetsinghi sp. nov. (Figs. 39, 40) is closer to B. radians (Figs. 25, 26, 41, 47) due to pentagonal juxta without medial process, large vinculum, and spine-like cornuti in vesica, but differs clearly by the narrower, curved and apically pointed medial costal process, broader distal costal process directed distally, dentate dorsal margin of sacculus, shorter distal saccular process, and larger subbasal diverticulum of vesica, whereas in B. radians (Fig. 41) the medial costal process is much broader and apically rounded, the distal costal process is thinner, apically pointed, directed dorsally, the dorsal margin of sacculus is setose, the distal saccular process is longer, and the subbasal diverticulum of vesica is significantly smaller. The female genitalia of B. navneetsinghi sp. nov. (Fig. 46) differ from those of B. radians (Fig. 47) by the much broader, V-shaped postvaginal plate, broader ostium bursae, narrower sclerotized posterior section of ductus bursae, more robust spinulose scobination of corpus bursae, and much larger appendix bursae; from B. subzebrina sp. nov. (Fig. 43) differ by the V-shaped postvaginal plate (whereas in B. subzebrina sp. nov. the postvaginal plate is more or less T-shaped), heavily sclerotized margins of ostium bursae and posterior section of ductus bursae (whereas in B. subzebrina sp. nov. the ostium bursae has rugose membranous margins, and the ductus bursae is evenly membranous), much smaller signum, and significantly larger appendix bursae.

Distribution.
