In remaining species, the clypeus has a conspicuous cross-carina, or is rectangulary stepped apically. The colour pattern of B. nemkovi is also distinctive, with an all yellow clypeus, an all red antenna, and the mesosoma lacking yellow spots. The terga are characterized by a rich yellow color.

Description of male holotype: Body length: 10.2 mm. Color: Clypeus yellow (apart small basal black zone), mandible basally yellow, medially red, apically black. Labrum, antenna and legs light reddish, coxa partly red. Pronotum dark red, remaining mesosoma black. Terga black with yellow spots or bands, lateral spots on T1, medially narrowed band on T2, visible parts of T 3–6 all yellow. T7 reddish. S1 and S7 with some red. Wing venation black, wings somewhat infumate. Lower face, most parts of mesosoma, basal half of T1 and S2 covered with dense, appressed silver pubescence, concealing integument. Femora below with dense silver pubescence. Morphology: Clypeus flat, apically with lamella, with some macro- and many micropunctures, ACM truncate. AS 2 basally narrowed, AS 2–3 and AS 12 as long as wide, AS 4–11 shorter than wide, AS 13 below as long as AS 11+12, conspicuously curved. Lower face with prominent median keel. Lower gena with keel at innerside near mouthparts. Face, upper surface of mesosoma, mesopleuron and T1 with coarse, comb-like sculpture. Remaining terga with dense macropunctation, less than a diameter apart, interspaces microsculptured. Metasoma with cross-carina, medially interrupted. T6 laterally with dentiform keel. T7 tridentate, median tooth larger than lateral tooth. Apical margin of S 2–5 medially with long white bristles, laterally each with a yellow lamella.

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: Asir province in Saudi Arabia (Fig. 33).

Etymology: The species is named in honor of the late Pavel G. T 5–6 in females and T 6–7 in males are black. Another Palearctic species with a black antenna and yellow spots on the pronotum is B. scalaris Illiger, 1807 from Europe and western Asia. It differs by an all red foreleg and by a yellow spot on the scutellum. The appressed silver pubescence of the head and mesosoma is denser in B. samadashanensis than in B. scalaris . Brachystegus schneideri, also described from nothern Oman, is another similar species. It is larger on average (see description) and has a red antenna and a mostly red pronotum. The male (the female is unknown) differs also from Brachystegus samadashanensis by continuous or shortly interrupted yellow bands on T 2–6.

Description of female holotype: Body length: 8.5 mm. Color: All black, apical half of mandible, tegula, wing base and legs reddish, apex of mandible dark red, coxa black except apex, forefemur on outer surface in apical half and entire foretibia with yellow spot/band. First AS dark red. Pronotum laterally with yellow spot. T 1–4 with large lateral spots, black space inbetween as wide or wider than spots. Face and mesosoma covered with dense silver pubescence. Morphology: Clypeus in apical forth with conspicuous edge, area under edge at right angle to basal clypeus surface, somewhat longer than diameter of lateral ocellus. ACM medially truncate. Lower face with prominent median keel. Sculpture of face and mesosoma comb-like, hidden under pubescence. Metanotum with cross-carina. T1 with dense medium-sized punctures, interspaces shiny, remaining terga with grainlike dense fine punctation. T6 with some rugae.

Description of male: Body length: 8.0 mm. Agreeing in general aspects with female and in morphology also with B. schneideri . Antennal apex red, antenna below somewhat reddish, black above. Cross-carina of clypeus hidden under long silver pilosity, difficult to recognize. Spots on T5 small, black space inbetween 2.5 × as wide as spot diameter. T6–7 black, T7 with narrow lateral tooth, and wide medial tooth, apically rounded, nearly truncate.

Distribution: Northern Oman (Fig. 33).

Etymology: The species is named after its collecting locality, Samad Ashan, a town in Northern Oman.

Remark: The type locality is placed south of the Alhajer (=Al Hajar) mountain in the gravel desert, whereas all collecting places of the similar B. schneideri are located north of the Alhajer mountain on the coastal plain, partly with sandy places. This indicates that the two species have different ecological requirements and explains why they occur so close together geographically.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03A18784FFBDDA3675B2F978FDEFFBA6	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Colour pattern is also unique and distinctive: mesosoma is mostly black with a short median yellow band on the pronotum, T1-2 with yellow band or spots only.

Description of female holotype: Body length: 6.5 mm. Color: Black, dark red are: mandible (except for black apex), basal half of antenna, pronotum, tegula, propodeum laterally, part of legs, S2, T 5–6. Pronotum with short yellow band medially. Morphology: Clypeus in apical forth with conspicuous edge, area under edge at right angle to the basal clypeus surface, shiny, approximately as long as diameter of lateral ocellus. ACM with two medial teeth. Gena in lower half with large carina, and a second smaller continuous carina at inner border of gena and vertex. Keel between antennal insertions V-shaped above. Face, mesoscutum and mesopleuron with coarse, comb-like punctation. Pronotum laterally with obtuse angle as seen in dorsal view. T 1–5 and sterna with macropunctation, punctures approximately 0.5–1.5 diameter, interspaces dull with fine micropunctation. T6 with lateral carina, surface somewhat shiny, with confluent punctation.

Description of male: Body length: 6.0 mm. Agreeing in general aspects and color pattern with female. Differs by the following characters: clypeal cross-carina and space below less developed, barely visible in the dense silver pubescence. Hindtibia apically on outer surface with small yellow spot. T 3–7 partly or all reddish. T6 laterally with spine. T7 laterally with black spine, medially with widely rounded tooth.

Distribution: Jazan and Mekkah province in Saudi Arabia (Fig. 34).

Etymology: The species is named after the Saudi Arabian town and province of Mekkah, where one of the paratypes was collected.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03A18784FFB6DA3875B2F95CFE0AFCA3	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
