03AD3F44FFCEFFEA2994FDBEFB7AC3CF.taxon	biology_ecology	Ecology: — In Vietnam, this species has only been found in broad-leaved mossy forest. There it grows as a low epiphyte on tree trunks. Note: — In Vietnam, Asplenium pifongiae is morphologically most similar to A. normale D. Don (1825: 7), both species belong to A. normale complex sensu Chang et al. (2018) and they were found sympatrically along the Bidoup peak trail. However, A. pifongiae can be distinguished from A. normale by having only 1 (rarely 2) sorus that is close and parallel to the basiscopic side of pinnae (versus having> 4 sori on both acroscopic and basiscopic sides, and angular to pinnae margin). This species is rare in both Taiwan and Vietnam. In Taiwan, it was proposed as critically endangered (CR) (Li et al. 2016), whereas in Vietnam, no more than 50 individuals were found along the trail during our investigation. In addition to the two species mentioned above, Chang et al. (2018) recently reported the third species of A. normale complex for northern Vietnam, named A. normaloides Yan Fen Chang & Schneider (2018: 583). Morphologically, A. normaloides is most similar to A. normale but differs from it by having highly perforate perispore (versus no or less perforate perispore) and more sori on its pinnae (10 – 14 versus less than 10).	en	Chen, Cheng-Wei, Hsu, Tian-Chuan, Chao, Yi-Shan, Lu, Ping-Fong, Li, Chia-Wei, Tram, Nguyen Khanh Trinh, Nguyen, Ich Le Phuoc Thanh, Dang, Minh Tri, Luu, Hong Truong, Parris, Barbara (2020): A newly recorded genus and twelve newly recorded species of ferns for Vietnam from Lang Biang Plateau. 03AD3F44FFC9FFED2994FE08FBD3C3C1.taxon	biology_ecology	Ecology: — In Vietnam, this species has been found in damp broad-leaved forests. There it grows as an epiphyte on mossy tree trunks near streams. Note: — This species has sometimes been lumped in Crepidomanes latealatum (Bosch) Copel. (1938: 60) (e. g., Liu et al. 2013; Nwe et al. 2017). Although these two species are genetically close to each other (3 bp. difference in their rbcL genes, Ebihara et al. 2010), however, C. makinoi can be distinguished from C. latealatum by having very short (mostly <1 cm long) stipes, sharply acute ultimate segment apexes, longer and denser striae (short false veinlets) between margins and midribs, and acute involucres. Here we followed TPG (2019) which recognized C. makinoi as a distinct species and treated C. palmifolium (Hayata) De Vol (1968: 108) as its synonym. In addition, we also reported its occurrence in China for the first time (see Additional specimens examined).	en	Chen, Cheng-Wei, Hsu, Tian-Chuan, Chao, Yi-Shan, Lu, Ping-Fong, Li, Chia-Wei, Tram, Nguyen Khanh Trinh, Nguyen, Ich Le Phuoc Thanh, Dang, Minh Tri, Luu, Hong Truong, Parris, Barbara (2020): A newly recorded genus and twelve newly recorded species of ferns for Vietnam from Lang Biang Plateau. 03AD3F44FFC9FFEE2994FA38FC16C7D1.taxon	biology_ecology	Ecology: — In Vietnam, this species was found in broad-leaved primary forest and it grows on slopes by streams. Note: — Although five Ctenitis were recorded in Vietnam by Phan (2010), C. membranifolia Ching & Chu H. Wang (1981: 121) and C. rhodolepis (C. B. Clarke) Ching (1938: 300) were usually treated as synonyms of C. subglandulosa (Hance) Ching (1938: 302) (e. g., Dong & Christenhusz 2013). Ctenitis sinii can be distinguished from all other three species of Ctenitis in Vietnam, i. e., C. decurrentipinnata (Ching) Tard. & C. Chr. (1938: 86), C. eatonii (Baker) Ching (1938: 291), and C. subglandulosa by having less divided fronds (ultimate segments pinnatifid) and thicker laminae (veinlets obscure). Morphologically, C. sinii is most similar to C. dianguiensis (W. M. Chu & H. G. Zhou) S. Y. Dong (2008: 35) from southern China but can be delimited from it by having ovate scales on the rachises and costae (versus subulate in C. dianguiensis, Zhou & Chu 1995). We noticed that there are two specimens (Zhang et al. 7010 & 7351) collected from northern and central Vietnam, respectively, at MO that identified as C. dianguiensis. Unfortunately, the specimen images are not available online for examination. In case of that these two specimens were correctly identified, the species number of Ctenitis in Vietnam will be added to five.	en	Chen, Cheng-Wei, Hsu, Tian-Chuan, Chao, Yi-Shan, Lu, Ping-Fong, Li, Chia-Wei, Tram, Nguyen Khanh Trinh, Nguyen, Ich Le Phuoc Thanh, Dang, Minh Tri, Luu, Hong Truong, Parris, Barbara (2020): A newly recorded genus and twelve newly recorded species of ferns for Vietnam from Lang Biang Plateau. Chao et al. (2017) also mentioned that P. latipinna can also be distinguished from its closely related species by its triangular basal segments of the lateral pinnae. However, the basal segments of lateral pinnae of the plants in Vietnam are falcate and we also noticed that the plants in Fig. 1 of Chao et al. Note: — Morphologically, S. wilfordii is most similar to S. griffithii (T. Moore) Iwatsuki (1963: 117) but can be distinguished from that species by having the combination of following characters: lamina pinnatifid or sometimes with one pair of lateral free-pinna, lamina densely covered with acicular hairs abaxially, terminal pinnae lobbed, and venation reticulate (Lin et al. 2013; Chen et al. 2019). Although S. wilfordii was previously recorded for Vietnam in Flora of China (Lin et al. 2013) and then followed by Hassler & Schmitt (2019 onwards), no specimen was cited there. The only voucher of S. wilfordii from Vietnam we could locate was a wrongly identified specimen collected from northern Vietnam in TAIF (Barcode 378058). After examination, we confirmed that specimen is an immature and sterile plant of S. griffithii. As a result, we think the previous northern Vietnam record is merely an error and our new collection from Lang Biang is the first confirmed record of S. wilfordii in Vietnam instead.	en	Chen, Cheng-Wei, Hsu, Tian-Chuan, Chao, Yi-Shan, Lu, Ping-Fong, Li, Chia-Wei, Tram, Nguyen Khanh Trinh, Nguyen, Ich Le Phuoc Thanh, Dang, Minh Tri, Luu, Hong Truong, Parris, Barbara (2020): A newly recorded genus and twelve newly recorded species of ferns for Vietnam from Lang Biang Plateau.
