03B487ACFFA5FFE648E7FF10FD0AFCCF.taxon	distribution	Distribution and habitat: — Aristolochia austroyunnanensis is currently known to Guangxi (Napo County) and Yunnan (Maguan County, Pingbian County, Xichou County, and Yuanyang County), China. It grows on the limestone mountain slope, in dense forest at elevations between 1600 m and 2100 m. Phenology: ― Flowering was recorded in May (J. Cai et al. 14 CS 9201 (KUN )) or September (Hwang 1988); fruiting was recorded in June (Sino-Russ. Exped. 2075 (IBSC & PEM )). Note: ― Aristolochia austroyunnanensis was published by Hwang (1981), who thought it was morphologically similar to A. petelotii O. C. Schmidt (1933: 95) but it can be distinguished from the later by its ovate-oblong or ovate-elliptic leathery leaf, lamina with shallowly cordate base and acuminate apex, as well as smaller limb. Aristolochia austroyunnanensis was later recognized both by Wu (1984) and Hwang (1988). After examining the type specimens of A. petelotii in P (P- 02028702 & P- 02028703), Ma (1989 a) thought that there was no essential difference between these two species. Thus, Ma (1989 a, 1989 b) regarded A. petelotii as a new record to China and reduced A. austroyunnanensis as its synonym. The treatment of Ma (1989 a, 1989 b) was later adopted by Tao (1997) and Hwang et al. (2003). Based on re-examination of the protologue, specimens, and live plant photos of these two species, we find that Aristolochia austroyunnanensis differs from A. petelotii by its leathery leaf (vs. herbaceous or membranous), flat dark-purple limb with light-yellow stripes (vs. bursiform dark-purple limb with white stripes) and yellow throat (vs. milk-white mixed with black). Detailed morphological comparison between these two species is shown in Table 1 and Figure 2. Aristolochia austroyunnanensis is also similar to A. fangchi Y. C. Wu ex L. D. Chow & S. M. Hwang in Hwang et al. (2003: 264) in the shape of flower and calyx limb, but it differs from the latter in the shape of leaf base and the inner surface color of calyx tube, which are also compared in Table 1 and Figure 2. The holotype of A. austroyunnanensis was stated to be deposited in KUN by Hwang (1981). However, it was confirmed that the holotype had been lost and no duplicates could be found (Jing-hua Wang, a custodian of KUN, pers. comm.). Given this and based on Art. 9.11 and 9.12 of ICN (McNeill et al. 2012), the paratype conserved in PEM, which bears more characters than its duplicate in IBSC, is chosen here as the lectotype. 03B487ACFFA7FFED48E7FA6FFEDAFED2.taxon	distribution	Distribution and habitat: — Aristolochia dabieshanensis is currently known to Anhui (Huoshan County and Jinzhai County) and Hubei (Luotian County and Yingshan County), China. It is locally rare on roadside or slope, in thicket or woodland at elevations between 800 m and 1300 m. Phenology: ― Flowering from April to June; fruiting in July. Note: ― When Yu & Cheng (1992) published Aristolochia dabieshanensis, they distinguished it from A. kaempferi Willdenow (1805: 152) by its long-ovate to ovate-triangular leaf, big and conduplicate bractlets inserted at base of pedicel, purple limb, throat with dark-brown patches, and capsule less than 5 cm long. Ma (1994) treated A. dabieshanensis as a synonym of A. heterophylla Hemsl. in Forbes & Hemsley (1891: 361) after examining the paratype of A. dabieshanensis, G. Yao 9019 (K). Based on previous studies, Hwang et al. (2003) merged A. dabieshanensis and A. heterophylla into A. kaempferi in Flora of China. Aristolochia kaempferi was described based on material from Japan (Willdenow 1805), afterward Duchartre (1864) supplemented with detailed description. Its distribution in China was first reported by Hance (1878), then the species was widely recognized by Chinese plant taxonomists (Hwang et al. 2003). However, Murata (2006) and Ohi-Toma et al. (2014) thought that A. kaempferi was endemic to Japan. Based on extensive field observations, careful examination of specimens and color photos, we find that none out of the massive materials of Aristolochia collected from China we have checked resembles the Japanese A. kaempferi. Thus, we agree with the treatment of Murata (2006) and Ohi-Toma et al. (2014), and exclude the registration of A. kaempferi from China. Aristolochia dabieshanensis can be distinguished from A. heterophylla by its ovate and conduplicate bractlets (vs. broad-ovate to suborbicular and amplexicaul), smooth inner surface of calyx limb (vs. dense papillae), not protrude calyx throat (vs. protrude) (Figures 4 D – F & 5). Aristolochia dabieshanensis is also similar to A. tanzawana (Kigawa 1989: 17) Watanabe-Toma & Ohi-Toma in Ohi-Toma et al. (2014: 160) in the shape and color of flower, we compare the differences of these four species in Table 2 and Figures 4 & 6, where information concerning A. kaempferi and A. tanzawana mainly follows Murata (2006) and Ohi-Toma et al. (2014). Specimens of A. dabieshanensis examined: — CHINA. Anhui: Huoshan County, October 1982, M. B. Deng & H. T. Wei s. n. (NAS); Jinzhai County, 18 May 1984, G.
