Zongxu Li.</p><p>Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin word “asper”, meaning “rough”, referring to the rough surface of the tegular apophysis; adjective.</p><p>Diagnosis. This new species can be distinguished from all other Jacaena species by the large and thick tegular apophysis, which has a granulated surface (Fig. 2F).</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Total body length 4.90: carapace 2.60 long, 1.94 wide; abdomen 2.30 long, 1.37 wide. Carapace black, radial granulated integument on carapace; cephalic area relatively broad; fovea small and round. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.12, ALE 0.14, PME 0.08, PLE 0.13; AME–AME 0.07, AME–ALE 0.03, PME–PME 0.11, PME–PLE 0.14; MOA 0.34 long, anterior width 0.30, posterior width 0.28. Clypeal height 0.20, greater than diameter of AME. Chelicerae moderately long, deep red-brown, with three promarginal teeth, two retromarginal teeth. Endites and labium gray; endites longer than wide, widest anteriorly, with maxillar hair tuft prolaterally. Labium almost as long as wide (0.38: 0.37), tip depressed, with several setae. Sternum brown, shieldshaped, with intercoxal sclerites between coxae I and II, II and III, III and IV; precoxal triangles present; anterior margin truncated, posterior margin not extending between coxae IV, only slightly narrower in front than in middle. Legs gray, tarsi with two dentate claws and conspicuous claw tufts, trochanters deeply notched. Leg spination: femur I with 2 strong pl spines (Fig. 2E), other femora spineless; tibia I with 7 pv and 6 rv spines, tibia II with 7 pv and 5 rv spines, tibia III with 2 pl and 3 rv spines, tibia IV with 3 pv and 2 rv spines, and 1 rl spine; metatarsus I with 4 pairs spines ventrally, metatarsus II with 4 pairs spines ventrally, metatarsus III with 1 pl, 2 rl spine, metatarsus IV with 2 pl, 1 rl spines. Leg I 5.95 (1.78+0.63+1.44+1.31+0.79); Leg II 6.12 (1.74+0.71+1.51+1.34+0.82); Leg III 5.57 (1.55+0.69+1.15+1.30+0.88); Leg IV 8.06 (2.15+0.79+1.81+2.14+1.17). Leg formula: 4213.</p><p>Abdomen ovoid and black, with small dorsal scutum (occupying less than half abdomen length); one pair of muscular impressions centrally, wrinkled on both sides.</p><p>Palp as illustrated (Fig. 3 C–E). Tibia short, dark brown, RTA with two processes, sclerotized dorsal and membranous ventral surface; dRTA little, pRTA expanded. Tegulum white-yellow, reniform, with faint sperm duct and large tegular apophysis with strongly rough and granulated surface. Embolus long, with thin base, strongly coiled, tip along with tegular apophysis. Conductor indistinct, behind embolus.</p><p>Female. One female paratype total body length 6.12: carapace 2.94 long, 2.31 wide; abdomen 3.18 long, 1.94 wide. Carapace deep brown, radial granulate integument on carapace; cephalic area relatively broad; fovea inconspicuous. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.13, ALE 0.14, PME 0.11, PLE 0.13; AME–AME 0.11, AME–ALE 0.06, PME–PME 0.11, PME–PLE 0.16; MOA 0.35 long, anterior width 0.33, posterior width 0.33. Clypeal height 0.27, more than two times diameter of AME. Leg I 8.35 (2.38+0.87+2.24+1.81+1.05); Leg II 7.38 (2.14+0.94+1.8 5+1.52+0.93); Leg III 5.78 (1.64+0.85+1.32+1.26+0.71); Leg IV 8.67 (2.28+0.81+2.09+2.41+1.08). Leg formula: 4123. Other characters as in male.</p><p>Abdomen ovoid and black, without dorsal scuta, with two pairs of muscular impressions centrally. Venter of abdomen light brown.</p><p>Epigynum as in Fig. 3 A–B. Epigynal plate poorly sclerotized, two copulatory openings large and circular, located at center of epigynal plate. Copulatory ducts long and tapered off, coiled as conical; fertilization ducts short. Spermathecae small, separated into two parts.</p><p>Distribution. This new species resembles Jacaena mihun (Deeleman-Reinhold, 2001), but can be easily distinguished by: (1) the long and circular embolus (vs narrower and shorter); (2) the thin base of the embolus (vs wider than all other species); (3) the simple coiled and folding copulatory duct (vs complex).</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Total body length 4.88: carapace 2.45 long, 1.95 wide; abdomen 2.43 long, 1.55 wide. Carapace black brown, darker in eye area; radial granulated integument on carapace; cephalic area relatively broad; fovea deep and round. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.15, ALE 0.15, PME 0.10, PLE 0.13; AME–AME 0.18, AME–ALE 0.13, PME–PME 0.20, PME–PLE 0.20, ALE–PLE 0.20; MOA 0.25 long, anterior width 0.18, posterior width 0.23. Clypeal height 0.15, equal to the diameter of AME. Labium longer than wide, tip cambered and with several setae. Leg spination: femur I with 2 strong pl spines, other femora spineless; femur I with 2 strong pl spines (Fig. 1), other femora spineless; tibia I with 7 pv and 8 rv spines, tibia II with 6 pv and 6 rv spines, tibia III with 2 pl and 1 rv spines, tibia IV with 3 pv and 2 rv spines, and 1 rl spine; metatarsus I with 5 pairs spines ventrally, metatarsus II with 4 pairs spines ventrally, metatarsus III with 1 pl, 1 rl and 1 pair ventral spines, metatarsus IV with 1 pl, 1 rl and 2 pairs ventral spines. Tibia short, red-brown, RTA with two processes, sclerotized dorsal and membranous ventral surface; dRTA wide, pRTA small. Color of tegulum same as tibia, reniform, with distinct sperm duct and spiral and cuspidal tegular apophysis. Embolus long, with thin base, strongly coiled, tip along with tegular apophysis. Conductor membranous, behind embolus.</p><p>Female. One female paratype total body length 5.83: carapace 2.90 long, 2.30 wide; abdomen 2.93 long, 1.93 wide. Carapace black brown, with metallic lustre, darker in eye area; radial granulate integument on carapace; cephalic area relatively broad; fovea deep and round. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.16, ALE 0.15, PME 0.12, PLE 0.14; AME–AME 0.25, AME–ALE 0.18, PME–PME 0.26, PME–PLE 0.30, ALE–PLE 0.20; MOA 0.25 long, anterior width 0.18, posterior width 0.23. The specific name is a Latin adjective meaning “tawny”, referring to the color of the palp.</p><p>Diagnosis. This new species is similar to J. jinxini, but can be distinguished by: 1) the short embolus (vs longer embolus); 2) the expanded and thumb-shaped pRTA (vs truncated); 3) the different color of whole palp fulvous.</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Total body length 5.89: carapace 2.97 long, 2.32 wide; abdomen 2.92 long, 1.72 wide. Carapace nearly circular, deep red-brown, with radial granulated integument; eye area relatively wide; fovea deep and round. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.15, ALE 0.15, PME 0.10, PLE 0.14; AME–AME 0.10, AME–ALE 0.06, PME–PME 0.14, PME–PLE 0.15, ALE–PLE 0.10; MOA 0.36 long, anterior width equal to poste-rior width (0.36). Clypeal height 0.23. Leg spination: femur I with 2 strong pl spines, other femora spineless; femur I with 2 strong pl spines, other femora spineless; tibia I with 8 pv and 7 rv spines, tibia II with 6 pv and 8 rv spines, tibia III with 2 pl and 1 rv spines, tibia IV absent; metatarsus I with 5 pl and 4 rl spines, metatarsus II with 3 pl and 4 rl spines, metatarsus III with 1 pl spines, metatarsus IV absent. Other characters as for J. aspera sp. n., except for coloration.</p><p>Abdomen oval and gray, with small distinct dorsal scutum (occupying less than half the length of the abdomen), two pairs of muscular impressions centrally.</p><p>Palp as illustrated (Fig. 5 A–C). Tibia short, yellowish-brown, RTA with two processes, dRTA rounded distally and strongly sclerotized, pRTA expanded and sclerotized. Tegulum same color as tibia, reniform, with distinct sperm duct and short thin tegular apophysis. Embolus short (not exceeding tip of TA), strongly coiled, tip alongside tegular apophysis. Conductor membranous, behind embolus.</p><p>Female: unknown.</p><p>Distribution. Chi Jin.</p><p>Etymology. The species name is a noun in apposition, derived from the type locality.</p><p>Diagnosis. This new species is similar to J. aspera sp. n., but can be distinguished by: 1) the thin and smooth tegular apophysis (vs thicker and rough); 2) the salient dRTA (vs small).</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Total body length 6.06: carapace 3.21 long, 2.49 wide; abdomen 2.85 long, 1.73 wide. Carapace oval, deep black brown, with radial granulated integument; fovea deep and round. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.12, ALE 0.14, PME 0.12, PLE 0.12; AME–AME 0.11, AME–ALE 0.08, PME–PME 0.12, PME–PLE 0.20, ALE–PLE 0.20; MOA 0.33 long, anterior width slowly short than posterior width (0.33: 0.42). Clypeal height 0.27, more than two times of the diameter of AME. Leg spination: femur I with 2 strong pl spines, other femora spineless; tibia I with 6 pv and 7 rv spines, tibia II with 6 pairs of ventral spines, tibia III with 3 pl and 2 rv spines, and 1 pl and 1 rl spines, tibia IV with 3 pv and 1 rv spines; metatarsus I with 4 pairs of ventral spines, metatarsus II with 4 pairs of ventral spines, metatarsus III with 1 pl, 1 rl and 1 rv spines, metatarsus IV with 1 pv, 2 rv, and 1 pl, 1 rl spines. Leg I 8.53 (2.36+0.99+2.23+1.85+1.10), Leg II 7.51 (2.17+0.95+1.83+1.53+1.03), Leg III 6.63 (1.82+0.88+1.37+1.60+0.96), Leg IV 9.56 (2.48+0.98+2.13+2.57+1.40). Leg formula: 4123. Other characters see J. aspera sp. n., except for different coloration.</p><p>Abdomen oval and dark gray, with small dorsal scutum and pair of muscular impressions centrally.</p><p>Palp as illustrated (Fig. 5 D–E). Tibia short, dark brown, RTA with two processes, dRTA triangular, strongly sclerotized, tip milky; pRTA short and sclerotized. Tegulum yellow-brown, reniform, with faint sperm duct and long, spiral and cuspidal tegular apophysis; subtegulum thin. Embolus thin, strongly coiled, tip along with tegular apophysis. Conductor membranous, behind embolus.</p><p>Female: unknown.</p><p>Comment: This new species and one of the paratypes of another new species ( J. aspera sp. n.) were both collected from same location (Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences). However, the distribution range of J. aspera sp. n. is larger than J. menglaensis sp. n. .</p><p>Distribution.
