Especially characteristic of this form is ~ he very spacious buccal cavity (tube), which is twice as long as wide. I t s length is 13.11 ~ a n d width 6.56 ~. Also remarkable is the v e r y strongly developed cardia of this new form. The distance b e t w e e n the t w o ducts is smaller than the distance between the first t w o ducts in the specimens o f de Man. The cuticle is finely annulated. The head is rounded, a n d papillate at the front end. The small buccal c a v i t y is cylindrical t o funnel-shaped. Lateral organs situated 16 t ~ behind the front end, simply spiral-shaped, 2 t ~ in section, i. e. 2 / 9 of the corresponding head-diameter. Esophagus elongated, thin, posteriorly w i t h a moderately large, strongly muscular bulb. The spear of the buccal cavity is very remarkable and strongly developed, and the shape o f the tail, measuring only 0.7 o f the anal body - diameter, is quite characteristic. 03B08784461EFFD5FE487F9F2169FC46.taxon	discussion	111 the sample from J 2 was recorded a juvenile female o f the genus M o n o n c h u s Bastian, which in its general shape seems to agree rather well with M. l ~ apillatu ~ ' Bast. This applies especially to the shape of the buccal cavity, which is ~ u'med with a v e r y anterior dorsal tooth. The front end is e v i d e n t l y r o u n d e d b u t not bent o u t w a r d s as in the species of de Man (pl. ix, fig. 35). I t should bc mentioned t h a t the ventral wall of the buccal c a v i t y of the J a n M a y e n specimen is v e r y finely toothed. The ventral wall mostly is absolutely smooth, not toothed as in M. muscorum Duj., closely related t o this species, a n d Bastian, who first described M. papillatus, also figured it in such a manner. Ditlevsen (1911) has, however, pointed o u t that Biitschli (1873) figured a h e a d of M. papillatus, the ventral wall o f the buccal cavity of which is evidently toothed, although not so strongly as in the alternative species. According to Mieoletzky it m a y sometimes, when the ventral wall is more strongly (sharply) toothed, be very difficult to separate this species from the old M. muscorum. I n this respect especially the structure o f the buccal cavity of the Jan Mayen specimen, the ventral wall o f which is evidently but more weakly toothed than in M. muscorum, seems t o agree rather well with the figure given b y Btitschli. Only the tail differs from this established cosmopolitan species, since it certainly tapers gradually posteriorly b u t seems to be a little more elongated and slender than in the type-specimen, figured b y de Man.	en	Allgén, C. With respect t o the last-named organs it is very similar to the genus Parachromagasteriella, described by the author (1933) from Norway, from which it differs only in the presence o f ocell ~ e. The body is, on the whole, o f even thickness and tapers only gradually t o w a r d s the head a n d scarcely noticeably in ti'ont of the anus. Cuticle smooth. The head is rounded a n d the foremost part slightly demarcated by a constriction from the rest of the head, a n d is j u s t in this constriction provided with four submedian bristles, measuring half the corresponding head-diameter. Buccal cavity (tube) thin. Lateral organs rather remarkable, of a shape characteristic o f the Araeolaimoidea. They are situated 9 tz behind the front end, simply spiral-shaped, with a posterior branch, and, as stated above, very similar to those of the marine genus Parachromagasteriella Allg 6 n. T h e y measure in transverse section 3 ~, i. e. exactly 1 / 3 of the corresponding body-diameter. Ocell a e situated 36 µ behind the f r ont, end, colourless, cube-shaped. Cephalad and caudad to the oeell a e the cuticle shows some sporadic submedian hairs. (O esophagus elongated, about evenly thick, without bulb. Immediately in front of the lateral organs the ventral gland opens, the duct of which is dilated as an ampulla at the level o f the ocell a e. The gland itself is probably situated 0.163 ram. caudad to the (esophagus. I t is very large, of uniform structure and provided with a nucleus in its posterior part. The tail is slemler, cylindro-conical, in the posterior part more sharply narrowed, thinned, at the end swollen, with end tip. The anterior half contains three large glands with nuclei. The vulva is situated almost e x a c t l y in the middle of the body. Femalc organs are strongly developed, with the egg cells arranged in a single row. This species is closely related to the marine species Parachromagasteriella (~ ylindricauda, described from some adult specimens by the author (1933, p. 111, pl. xvii, fig. 72 a-c) from the Trondheimsfiord (litteral region of the biological station a t Trondheim).	en	Allgén, C.
