Yan and L.-Z. Li, new species

(Fig. 1)

Type material. Holotype: China: ♂, labeled ‘ CHINA: Xizang A. R., Nielamu County (聂拉木县), Zhangmu town (樟木镇), Lixin village (立新村), alt. 2400–2600 m, 27–28.vii.2010, Jian-Qing Zhu leg. / HOLOTYPE [red], Tetrabothrus xizangensis, Yan & Li det. 2015, (SNUC)’. Paratype: China: ♀, same locality, 18.vii.2010, alt. 2600 m Jian-Qing Zhu leg. / PARATYPE [yellow], Tetrabothrus xizangensis, Yan & Li det. 2015’ (SNUC).

Description. 3.96–4.56 mm; coloration: forebody, and abdominal tergites maroon; legs yellowish-brown, but tibias paler than femora; antennae reddish-brown (Fig. 1 A).

Head transverse and weakly rounded (HW/HL = 1.20); surface covered with long recumbent pubescence; eyes moderately large and moderately bulging. Antennae short and bulky, only 1.40 mm long (Fig. 1 A), 3rd antennomere approximately as long as 2nd, and from 4th anetnnomere wider than long. Pronotum circular and convex, slightly emarginate anterior margin, as broad as long (PW/PL = 1.01), slightly broader than head (PW/HW = 1.10), widest at middle; pubescent of surface similar head (Fig. 1 A); elytra transverse, narrowed anteriad, much broader than long (EW/EL = 1.92), and broader than pronotum (EW/PW = 1.55); surface densely covered with long recumbent pubescence (Fig. 1 A); hind wings reduced. Abdomen widest at 3rd and 4th segments; 5th–8th segments slightly narrowed posteriad; surface of all tergites glabrous, but with some pubescence in poterior margin of tergites; 3rd–6th tergites deeply and broadly excavated at each base.

Male: 8th tergite (Fig. 1 D) almost truncate; 8th sternite (Fig. 1 E) with eight pair of long black bristles, and some much long pubescence; median lobe of aedeagus as Figs. 1 B, C; crista apicalis present in lateral view.

Female: 8th tergite same as male, but posterior margin of 8th sternite (Fig. 1 G) slightly concave at middle.

Measurements. BL: 3.95–4.56; FBL: 1.84–2.29; HW: 0.68–0.80; PL: 0.78–0.90; PW: 0.73–0.88; EL: 0.62– 0.76; EW: 1.14–1.28; SL: 0.26–0.26.

Distribution. China: Xizang (Fig. 6).

Etymology. The specific epithet derives from the type locality name.

Comments. The new species is similar to T. mircopterus Pace and T. curtipennis Assing by sharing the short elytra and reduced hind wings. Tetrabothrus xizangensis is also similar to T. micropterus (illustrations of T. micropterus see Pace 1992b: 137) in general appearance and color of the body, but can be distinguished by the more slender 1st antennomere, and smaller distal crest of the aedeagus in lateral view. The new species can be separated from T. curtipennis (illustrations of T. curtipennis see Assing, 2007b: 50) by broader pronotum, and smaller distal crest of the aedeagus.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03BB8787520DDF412CF9667FFDFB638E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
