Antenna yellow. Labial palpus yellow; second segment expanded distally, about twice length of first segment in male; second segment slightly thick, third segment slender, a little longer than second, pointed terminally in female. Thorax and tegula brown. Forewing with costal margin straight, apex bluntly rounded, termen oblique; ground color yellowish brown except termen blackish brown and scattered with brown scales; cell-dot blackish brown, small, nearly rounded; discocellar spot blackish brown, relatively large, short claviform; tornal stripe obliquely inward, reaching lower margin of cell; cilia pale yellow. Hindwing grayish yellow; cilia pale yellow. Fore legs yellowish brown, tarsi with brown bands on ventral surface; mid legs yellowish brown; hind legs pale yellow, tibia covered with long yellowish white hairs.

Male genitalia (Fig. 3 b): Uncus large, nearly triangular; caudal margin slightly concave medially, bearing setae on dorsal surface. Gnathos with basal 2/3 relatively broad, distal 1/3 conspicuously tapering to apex. Costal bridge narrow, triangularly angled medially. Valva with basal 1/3 broad, nearly parallel dorso-ventrally medially, distal 1/ 3 slightly widened to blunt apex; sacculus long, about 2/3 length of valva, its basal half broad, nearly elliptical, distal half narrowed to pointed apex, ventral margin with hard hairs at middle. Corpus bursae rounded; signum placed anteriorly, small, irregularly elliptic, with teeth.

Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. idiogena Wu, 1994, but can be separated from the latter by the juxta with the nearly rectangular postero-lateral lobes obliquely straight terminally, and the vinculum with anterior margin semicircularly protruded in the male genitalia, and the ductus bursae about twice as long as the corpus bursae in the female genitalia. In S. idiogena, the angled postero-lateral lobes of the juxta are pointed terminally, and the vinculum is broadly rounded on the anterior margin; and the ductus bursae is about 2/3 length of the corpus bursae.

Distribution. China (Guangdong, Hunan, Yunnan).

Etymology. The specific name of this species is derived from the Latin arcuatus (arcuate), in reference to the arched lamella antevaginalis.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/32586B79FFC14572AB980523FE78FD6F	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. China (Anhui, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Tibet, Zhejiang), India.

Remarks. Meyrick (1910) described this species from India (Assam) based on one male and one female, and Clarke (1965) provided image of its male genitalia. Gozmány (1978) examined two additional males and two females from China (Gansu, Sichuan, Zhejiang), and provided the image of its female genitalia. During our study of Spatulignatha, we found the female of S. olaxana is the same as that of S. hemichrysa provided by Gozmány (1978) from the result of a critical examination of S. olaxana that were collected from different parts of China with the same collection data. We dissected a female of S. hemichrysa that was identified by Meyrick, borrowed from the British Natural History Museum, and found that the previously described female of S. hemichrysa by Gozmány (1978) was identical to the female of S. olaxana . The female genitalia of S. hemichrysa is described for the first time herein.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/32586B79FFC64576AB9801CAFEBBFB13	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Adult (Figs. 1 f, 2f) with wing expanse 17.0–19.0 mm.

Female genitalia (Fig. 4e): Apophyses posteriores about twice as long as apophyses anteriores, extending to anterior 1/3 of abdominal sternite VIII, distal 4/5 thickened. Lamella antevaginalis heavily sclerotized, nearly rectangular, extending backward posterolaterally, forming nearly right-angled triangular plate. Antrum columnar. Ductus bursae as long as corpus bursae, basal 1/4 narrow, distal 3/4 expanded; ductus seminalis arising from distal 1/3 of ductus bursae, its basal half expanded, distal half narrowed. Corpus bursae rounded; signum placed at distal 1/3, small, irregularly rounded, with teeth.

Diagnosis. Spatulignatha olaxana can be separated from its congeners, except S. hemichrysa, by the blackish antenna, dark-brown costa of the forewing before middle and dark-brown fascia which runs obliquely from about 2/3 length of costa to before tornus, by the sacculus with an apical lobe that bears stiff hair-like scales in the male genitalia (Fig. 3 f). This species is very similar to S. hemichrysa, and the differences between them are discussed under S. hemichrysa .

Distribution. China: (Fujian, Guangdong, Guizhou, Guangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Taiwan, Yunnan, Zhejiang).

Remarks. Wu (1994) described this species on three male specimens. Park (2000) reported this species from Taiwan based on three males collected in Illan County. By comparison with the female genitalia of S. hemichrysa loaned from the Natural History Museum, we determined that the female of S. hemichrysa described by Gozmány (1978), from a specimen collected in Sichuan, China, is in fact the female of S. olaxana Wu.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/32586B79FFC74579AB980653FB04FE72	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
