At Okemos, Michigan 15 beetles were collected (4 - VI- 72 and 5 - VII- 70) on Juglans cinerea Linnaeus, and 12 specimens were reared from same host in 1974 and 1976 from pupal cells in the bark of a large dead butternut tree. These specimens key to C. quadriimpressa, and have similar male genitalia, but their dorsal elytral sculpture is more rough and irregular, and the elytral foveae are less distinct. These beetles may represent a new species; however, additional studies are needed. Other specimens collected in Texas on Celtis laevigata Willd., near recently cut oaks key to C. quadriimpressa. These specimens are somewhat larger (10.0 – 13.0 mm long), have more setae on a mottled dull bronzy-green frons, less sculptured elytra and less distinct elytral foveae than beetles typically collected on oak. As is common for many species of the C. femorata species group, some variation exists in shape of male genitalia in this species. The specimen reared from black walnut in Idaho may represent an introduction, likely in nursery stock, but perhaps via imported firewood (Westcott, 2005).	en	Wellso, Stanley G., Manley, Gary V. 3B4487D5B54E0369FF73FA06FA04BA0D.taxon	discussion	Comments. This is the most widespread species in this species group both in distribution and hosts. Since this species attacks fruit trees (‘ flatheaded appletree borer’, Fig. 8) and many other trees, it is considered economically important. It occurs in all continental states and Canada, and based on available records it appears to be more common east of the Continental Divide. Since C. quadriimpressa and some of the other species described in this paper were included by Fisher (1942) under C. femorata, some host records reported previously for C. femorata maybe incorrect. Chrysobothris femorata typically is not found on oaks. Male genitalia (Fig. 20) robust, with the penis broader than width of each paramere. Female pygidium (Fig. 32): rather deeply depressed on each side of median carina, impressions with rather narrow lateral margins. Males: 7.0 – 12.2 mm long, 2.9 – 5.1 mm wide; Females: 9.6 – 14.2 mm long, 4.0 – 6.1 mm wide. Chrysobothris femorata (Olivier, 1790) was described from Georgia. According to Horn & Kahle (1935 – 1937), parts of the Olivier collection are thought to be deposited in the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), Paris and other parts went first to L. Chevrolat, and then via C. Kerremans, and should be in The Natural History Museum (BMNH), London. The Olivier buprestid types have not been located, and thus, a neotype for C. femorata is designated herein [see above]. Considerable variation exists for beetles that key to C. femorata. Thus, this species may still include several other species. Recognition of additional new species in this species group will probably require more detailed biological studies. For example, we do not know how much variation exists within progeny from a single mating. Also, it appears that some individuals may be reproducing on hard woods (maple, apple, etc.) and others on soft woods (poplar, birch, etc.). One beetle from Lincoln, Nebraska has the clypeus shaped like C. adelpha, but the genitalia are extremely broad and different than any beetles observed. Some beetles from the Southwest looked somewhat different than C. femorata, but the male genitalia were close to C. femorata.	en	Wellso, Stanley G., Manley, Gary V. 3B4487D5B5490373FF73F8EEFEABBAAD.taxon	discussion	Comments. Two specimens of a predatory wasp, Cerceris fumipennis Say, were captured each with a specimen of C. caddo on 25 - V- 2001, at Bastrop, Texas by Stan Wellso. The posterolateral elytral foveae are usually somewhat coma shaped. Some males have two small irregular gold callosites on frons and closer to middle than eyes, and some males from Arizona have the clypeal margin gold rather than green. Three males from Bastrop, Texas have the frons and the forward facing surface of the profemora more orange-green than brilliant green. The frons color is somewhat similar to the frons color of some atypical specimens of C. viridiceps. Some Florida specimens have the frons much lighter in color and similar to the frons color of C. rugosiceps. This species was present on Celtis laevigata in Bastrop, Texas with Agrilus lecontei celticola Fisher, A. macer LeConte, Chrysobothris analis LeConte, and Texania fulleri (Horn).	en	Wellso, Stanley G., Manley, Gary V. 3B4487D5B5560377FF73FCFBFF45B94D.taxon	description	Description. Size, 14.2 mm x 6.0 mm. shining blackish-bronze dorsally with foveae slightly brighter in color; more shining ventrally than above. Head dull greenish with some bronze on raised areas on lower frons, becoming bronze on occiput. Occiput with broad, smooth, grooved longitudinal carina forming an indistinct Y anteriorly; frons nearly flat with purple-maroon chevron parallel to arms of Y that become broader as it approaches eyes; frons with punctures less well defined than those on occiput, and clothed with long white setae that curve downward apically. Clypeus green, margin black, semicircularly rounded on each side of median notch, becoming yellow-copper between antennal bases. Basal eight antennomeres green with apical antennomeres coppery-maroon, and four basal antennomeres equal in length to apical seven. Pronotum 1.7 times wider than long, widest at anterior 1 / 6, sides sloping slightly toward base from anterior to posterior; narrowest at base, disc slightly concave anteromedially, irregular smooth area about depression, with many transverse ridges lacking medially, otherwise irregularly punctate with slightly elevated smooth spaces. Scutellum smooth, triangular, dark blackish-green. Elytra wider than pronotum, sides rounded in front, subparallel to widest behind middle, lateral margin arcuate with serrulations largest on apical half; surface glabrous with irregular longitudinal, smooth costae connected to one another by small, irregular, smooth ridges, and interrupted by irregular densely punctured depressed areas; sutural costa quite distinct from basal 1 / 5 to apex; transverse foveae shallow and indistinct, appearing goldish-black. Underside: proventrite irregularly punctate with many long white setae; shiny bronze, greenish on posterior margin of abdominal ventrites, laterally magenta on irregular raised areas; disc of abdomen rubbed smooth; irregularly punctate with a rather long white semierect seta in each puncture, lateral edges of abdominal ventrites 2, 3, and 4 with green, gold, magenta, and blue color ending on apical lateral angle; last visible ventrite emarginate at apex with lateral margin coarsely serrulate. Legs: femora greenish-bronze, less color on metafemora; protibia with anterior margin greenish, strongly arcuate with eight teeth on inner margin, and ten smaller teeth on inner margin of each mesotibia; tarsi green. Male genitalia (Fig. 24) rather elongate and not very wide, parameres equal in length. Allotype female. Size, 15.0 mm x 6.4 mm. frons reticulated, bronze with irregular shaped transverse callosity between and just above antennal sockets, weaker in center of frons; a broad chevron-like callosity, pointing toward vertex, and weaker in center of frons. Clypeal margin narrow black and adjacent area greenish. Female pygidium (Fig. 36) with deep depression on either side of median carina, and large tubercles within depression. Males: 9.2 – 13.8 mm long, 3.9 – 6.1 mm wide; Females: 10.9 – 17.1 mm long, 4.9 – 7.0 mm wide.	en	Wellso, Stanley G., Manley, Gary V.
