Males of C. convexifrons are similar to C. morio but differ in the broader central knob (Fig. 1 A) and black hairs on disk of tergites II – III. In C. morio, the central knob is narrow despite of the very broad face (Fig. 3 A), and tergites II – III are covered with light hairs on disk. In female C. convexifrons, the eye margins and lateral stripes on the frons near the eyes are often orange-brown, and the mesonotum and abdomen are covered with short black hairs. Face broad, finely broadened in lower part, black (in one specimen brownish in lower part), covered with grey dusting and dense erect black hairs; central knob small (Fig. 6 A); eye margins narrow, in middle part narrower than 1 / 2 of basoflagellomere, black or brown, covered with grey dusting and comparatively short black hairs; genae high, black with fine grey dusting and moderate in length black anteriorly and yellow posteriorly hairs. Frons swollen and broad, except narrow shiny stripe along lunula covered with brownish dusting and black hairs, frontal angle more than 100 °; lunula brownish yellow; antennal pits separated. Antenna with scape and pedicel dark brown, basoflagellomere rounded, bright orange with darkened anterior half (Fig. 6 D); arista long, bare, brown. Eyes completely covered with dense long black hairs, line of eyes connection approximately equal to length of frons without lunula. Vertex swollen, covered with black hairs; ocellar triangle equilateral. Occiput with black hairs. Thorax. Humeral callus black, with brownish dusting and black hairs. Scutum with fine punctuation, covered with stripes of fine brownish dusting and comparatively long erect black hairs of approximately equal length; no bristles present on sides. Scutellum with fine brownish dusting and long fine black hairs, hind margin without bristles; subscutellar fringe long, yellow. Pleurae with grey dusting and black and yellow hairs; upper and lower patches of hairs on katepisternum connected posteriorly; metasternum with long yellow hairs. Leg. Fore coxae without lateral spur, black with dense grey dusting and yellow hairs; femora black with narrowly yellow tips, long hairs on posterior side of fore femur completely black, on mid femur long hairs yellow in basal half and black in apical half, long hairs on anteroventral part of hind femur black; tibiae orange-yellow in basal 1 / 3 – 1 / 2 and black in apical part; tarsi black dorsally. Wing. Narrow, translucent, with slightly brownish upper part, completely covered with microtrichia, vein RS with some black hairs dorsally, inner angle between veins R 4 + 5 and M 1 acute (Fig. 6 C). Halteres yellow with black head, squama yellow, with yellow cilia. Abdomen. Narrow, in broadest part narrower than scutum at level of wing base; covered with fine brown dusting and some erect, mostly yellow hairs, in hind corners of tergites II – IV with some black hairs, posterior part of tergite IV with black hairs (rarely with admixture of yellow hairs). Genitalia. As in Figs 6 F – I and black haired. Female. Body length 8.0 – 8.6 mm, wing length 8.5 – 8.9 mm. Head. Face very broad, in broadest part 1 / 2 of width of head, with parallel sides, shiny black, with fine grey dusting dense under antennae; covered with short erect white hairs, central knob small and narrow, eye margins narrow, brownish, covered with fine grey dusting and short white hairs; cheeks comparatively high, covered with fine grey dusting and yellow hairs, with brown spot under eye. Antenna orange, basoflagellomere not very enlarged, oval (Fig. 6 E); arista bare. Frons very broad (Fig. 6 B), covered with short erect hairs which are yellow anteriorly and black posteriorly; with three longitudinal furrows and an unusually broad cross furrow in anterior 1 / 3; predominantly shiny, with grey dusting along furrows; vertex swollen, ocellar triangle equilateral; occiput with short yellow and some black hairs. Thorax. Scutum with brown and grey stripes of dusting and with short erect yellow hairs; postalar callus with longer yellow hairs, sometimes with short fine black bristles. Scutellum with yellow hairs, its hind margin with some fine black or yellow and black bristles. Pleurae with fine grey dusting and yellow hairs, postero-dorsal corner of anepisternum without black bristles or black hairs, upper and lower patches of hairs on katepisternum connected posteriorly. Leg. Coloration as in male, but mid basitarsus can be yellow and long hairs on all femora yellow. Wing. Faintly brownish in apical 2 / 3 and yellowish in basal 1 / 3. Abdomen. Oval, in broadest part wider than scutum at wings base level, black and shiny at sides and with fine brownish grey dusting in middle, tergite I completely covered with dense grey dusting and with erect short yellow hairs.
