General color brown; head brown, M-line pale (Fig. 1) with diffuse limits in some specimens; postfrontal line U-shaped; compound eyes and posterior ocelli black; parietalia and anterior part of clypeal area ochraceous; antennae with scape and pedicel brown, flagellum pale; labial and maxillary palpi varying from ochraceous to brownish. Pronotum brown with rugosities. Forewings with membrane and veins brownish. Legs brownish with tibia and tarsi darker. Cerci light brown. Abdomen yellowish. Male: forewings mean length of males 12 mm (10 to 14.5 mm). Hammer conical (Fig. 2). Penial armature with a pair of distal membranous vesicles (Figs. 3–5); hooks relatively large, regularly curved, apex pointed (Fig. 5); keel transverse in dorsal view (Fig. 3), prominent in lateral view (Fig. 4). Female: described by Zwick (1973), the subgenital plate four-lobed. Illustrations of the female subgenital plate (sternum 8) and sternum 9 are presented in Zwick (1973) and Froehlich (2002).

Remarks. Zwick (1972, 1973) redescribed the male and female of A. debilis . Froehlich (2002) commented on the variation in shape of the lobes of the female subgenital plate. This species has a wide distribution including Missiones and Entre Ríos (Argentina), Paraguay, and southern and southeastern Brazil (Froehlich, 2002). The species has a characteristic penial armature, which includes a transversal dorsal keel in dorsal view, prominent in lateral view. In lateral view, the apex of penial armature is triangle-shaped and, in some specimens, the extremity is directed dorsally.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/667887F1FFDCFFF2FF3DFC29435F1BD5	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The males of the above material have a forewing mean length of 10.75 mm (10–11 mm); forewing mean length of females was 12.75 mm (11.5 to 14 mm). This species is yellowish with two brownish stripes laterally on the pronotum. Wings have brownish subcostal veins. The color pattern of the head and pronotum of the specimens collected in Macaé agrees with the description of Jewett (1960). However, these specimens do not have the lighter window on the distal part of the wing, which is a common characteristic of A. subcostalis . The penial armature is identical to that described by Froehlich (2004).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/667887F1FFDCFFF0FF3DF8E6412D1DDA	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This species was described by Froehlich (2002) based on a single specimen collected in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro State. In the specimens studied above, the mean length of the forewings of the males is 11.25 mm (10–12 mm) and females 16 mm (15–17 mm). Anacroneuria flintorum has been recorded in streams of the mountainous regions of southeastern and southern Brazil (Froehlich, 2002; Bispo & Froehlich, 2004a). This brown species exhibits much variability in color pattern (Bispo & Froehlich, 2004a). However, the penial armature of all specimens examined is elongated and has hooks well separated from the vesicles, agreeing with the original description of A. flintorum (Froehlich, 2002) .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/667887F1FFDEFFF0FF3DFEE040951E74	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This species was recently described by Froehlich (2010b) based on material collected in the Serra da Mantiqueira, São Paulo State. This represents the first record of the species in Rio de Janeiro State. In this specimen, the length of the male wing is 10 mm. As described by Froehlich (2010b), this species can be easily confused with A. subcostalis; however, it is darker and its penial armature has a larger apex, which is slightly curved.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/667887F1FFDEFFF0FF3DFADA42EC1BD2	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
