The specific name refers to the triangular distal part of male tergum 10 lateral projections in lateral aspect.

Distribution. China, Guangxi; presently known only from the high plateau of the Daming Mountains, a rather isolated range in central Guangxi. The plateau is famous for 'tea-colored' waters caused by high humic content (Fig. 25). The known habitats of the new species are these medium sized blackwater streams, co-occurring with only a few species of other stoneflies. The sympatric R. duyuzhoui was much more numerous than this apparently rare species (Figs. 23–24).

Remarks. Males of the new species are distinguished from other members of the group by tergum 10 having lateral projections with distal part of lateral projection forming a triangular plate in lateral aspect. The species is similar to R. longispina known from Zhejiang and Guangdong in dorsal view. However, R. longispina has hooklike pointed tip lateral projections and lateral margins of subanal lobe form large paired parallel-sided or triangular sclerites (Li & Yang 2012: figs. 32, 34–35 & 52).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/973787F4CD0D7601FF3C40D2FD49F84E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The specific name, “cestro-”, derived from Greek “kestron”, a graving tool, refers to the shape of epiproct in dorsal view.

Distribution and ecology. China, Guangxi; presently known only from the Shiwanda Mountains, a moderately high and isolated coastal range. This species occurred in large numbers associated with submontane rivers (Fig. 28) and a small forest brook, together with a diverse community of other stoneflies, but the only other Leuctridae was R. sinensis Yang & Yang, 1993 . Many of the specimens were teneral and last instar larvae still occurred in the streams. This species apparently begins emerging in March (Figs. 26–27). The species can be attracted to light.

Remarks. The new species seems a typical member of the R. vietnamica group, western assemblage sensu Sivec et al. (2008). The male of the new species seems closely related to R. hainana Li & Yang, 2010 from Hainan by sharing a quite similar epiproct but can be separated from the latter by lateral projections on tergum 10 with the upper spine being subequal to the lower one in lateral view and epiproct much wider than long and nearly as wide as central plate. R. hainana male epiproct is longer than wider and much narrower than central plate in dorsal view, the lateral projections on tergum 10 bearing a short upper spine and a larger lower spine in lateral view. Additionally, the cercus of the new species lacks a spine while that of R. hainana has a subapical spine.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/973787F4CD0B760AFF3C40F6FA94FF24	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The above male is a new record for Guangxi. Rhopalopsole furcata Yang & Yang, 1994, R. furcospina, and R. sinensis were considered indistinguishable, recognized as a species complex by Sivec et al. (2008), reporting specimens belonging to these species under the name R. furcospina Wu Complex from various Chinese provinces and Hong Kong (Sivec et al. 2008). Later, Qian & Du (2012a) reported distinguishing characters of the terminalia of these closely related species on the basis of examination of the types. We found that R. furcata differs from the other two by lack of distinct lateral bars on central plate of tergum 10, while R. sinensis is uinque in having a long apical whorl of hairs on antennomeres (Figs. 20–21).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/973787F4CD06760AFF3C4028FC01FCEB	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This species was described from Giuzhou Province, later reported from Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Yunnan, Guangxi and Guangdong (Qian & Du 2014, Yang & Li 2016). A male specimen from northern Vietnam was reported with doubt (Harrison & Stark 2008). As mentioned above, this species can be easily distinguished on the basis of long setae of the antenna (Fig. 20–21). In addition, we provide a figure of the female terminalia (Fig. 19) that is similar to the one illustrated from Sichuan by Sivec et al. (2008: fig. 23.12) as member of the R. furcospina complex.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/973787F4CD06760AFF3C42EEFC3CF9AE	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
