9F37571B2220FFC7679AFB159416FD66.taxon	materials_examined	Type species by original designation: Caphodus maculatus Oman, 1938 Length 4.2 to 5.8 mm. Head as wide as or slightly narrower than pronotum. Ground color whitish, with brown and orange markings; crown with pair of large orange maculae centrally and with smaller dark brown markings anteriorly; pronotum anteriorly with 2 or 3 large orange maculae, medially with two pairs of orange maculae; forewing with two prominent brown spots- one between clavus and A 1 and one basad of central anteapical cell, with numerous false brown veins, with brown coloration at wing apex, veins tan toward base and brown toward apex, reflexed costal veins brown; face and venter with extensive dark brown coloration; legs whitish with dark brown markings, setal bases dark brown. Crown produced, longer medially than next to eyes; texture shagreen on anterior 1 / 3, smooth on posterior 2 / 3. Ocelli large; close to eyes. Face with frontoclypeus long, narrow; clypellus constricted subbasally and expanded toward apex; lorae large; antennae arising near middle of eye; mesial margin of eye notched. Profemur row AV with numerous very short, stout setae along basal 2 / 3 of femur; intercalary row with ~ 15 long fine setae; AM 1 present, situated ventrally. Protibia macrosetae 1 + 4. Hind tarsomere I long, slender; apex with four apical platellate setae, innermost seta platellate. Male. Pygofer longer than tall in lateral view; with several rows of long macrosetae near apex; dorsally barely incised around segment X; with two pairs of process arising posteriorly or posteroventrally. Valve triangular; width more than 2 x median length. Subgenital plates long, triangular; with complete row of macrosetae near lateral margin; with numerous fine setae laterally. Connective with anterior arms closely appressed; with stem shorter than anterior arms; articulated with aedeagus. Styles with base broadly bilobed; preapical lobe present or absent; apophysis short to long. Aedeagus with one or two pairs of long processes arising from base; shaft symmetrical and tubular or asymmetrical and flattened. Segment X sclerotized dorsally and laterally; with pair of ventral processes. Female. Sternite VII variable in shape. Ovipositor straight ventrally or slightly concave; extending beyond pygofer apex. First valvifer with or without unique posterior extension. First valvula with elongated baculiform sculpturing dorsally, baculiform elements grading together ventrally, nearly forming strigate pattern; sculpturing reaching dorsal margin, extending 2 / 3 to 3 / 4 length of valvula. Second valvula with obtusely triangular, serrated teeth dorsally on 1 / 2 to 2 / 3 length of valvula. Gonoplac with four to five stout setae apex; with several stout setae ventrally. Notes. Given new observations of the male genitalia of C. obliquus and ovipositor of all three species, Caphodus is redescribed here. Oman et al. (1990) listed Caphodus in Deltocephalinae but did not place the genus to a tribe, and Zahniser & Dietrich (2013) placed it in Scaphoideini based on morphological similarity to some members of that group. The phylogenomic analyses of Cao et al. (2022) showed that the Caphodus is closely related to Scaphoidula Osborn, 1923 within a clade including most genera placed in Pendarini. Based on that result and a re-assessment of morphological characters defining tribes of Deltocephalinae, Zahniser et al. (in press) moved Caphodus to Pendarini.	en	Zahniser, James N. A. dorsalis can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the combination of its color pattern (ground color yellow; pronotum, mesonotum, and medial half of forewing at rest dark brown), and characters of the male genitalia. Male. Pygofer with pair of bladelike processes arising from dorsal margin and extending to near middle of pygofer height. Style apophysis long and lacking a distinct preapical lateral lobe and apex foot-like with sharp preapical medial point. Aedeagus with two pairs of apical processes; apical pair slender and directed caudolaterally and the preapical pair longer, wider, falcate, and directed anterodorsally. Notes. In his revision of the Neotropical Deltocephalinae, Linnavuori (1959) did not observe the type specimen, and listed the species as incertae sedis, noting Young’s (1952) placement “ near Atanus ”. Except for a drawing of the forewing by Gillette (1898), this species has not previously been illustrated. The male genitalia are described here for the first time, and the placement of the species in Atanus is confirmed. “ Chapada ” on the label refers to Chapada dos Guimarães (see Camisão et al., 2024) in Mato Grosso State.	en	Zahniser, James N. Acc. 5064. / Feb, 1913 / Eutettix mimicus nsp TYPE / Tubulanus. Notes. Among the CMNH specimens in the loan found at USNM was the type specimen of Eutettix mimicus Osborn, 1924 from Bolivia. Linnavuori (1959) did not observe the type, listed the species as incertae sedis within his broad circumscription of Euscelini, repeated the description of Osborn (1924), and made no further comment on the species. After observing the type specimen in this study and determining it belongs in Atanus, a search of the literature revealed that the genitalia structures closely resembled those of Atanus lobatus (Osborn) which were partially illustrated by Linnavuori & DeLong (1977, Figs. 44 – 47). The type of Thamnotettix lobatus Osborn, 1923 was provided on loan from CMNH for comparison, and the two Osborn species were determined to be synonyms. Abdominal sternites mostly yellow, with diffuse brownish markings posterolaterally. Sternite VII broad; posterior margin with pair of broadly rounded lobes; roundedly excavated medially; centrally with a large dark brown marking. Pygofer yellow with pair of subapical brown spots; with tuft of light colored macrosetae before brown spot and numerous brown macrosetae apically. Notes. Among the specimens in the recovered loan was a paratype of this species from Puerto Suarez, Bolivia. Oman (1938) described the genus Bolarga Oman, 1938, designated B. boliviana as the type species, and synonymized the variety pallida Osborn with B. boliviana. Linnavuori (1959) provided some illustrations of the male genitalia. The habitus is illustrated here for the first time, and additional images of the genitalia are provided. The apices of the forewings and hindlegs and the macrosetae of the pygofer of the paratype specimen are apparently burnt or singed. Linnavuori (1959) described and illustrated the male genitalia of this species. However, he apparently mistakenly described the pygofer “ as in the following species [B. quadrimaculata Lv.] ” which is described partly as “ without a sclerified lobe ”. The pygofer of B. boliviana has inner ventral margins thickened and produced anteriorly into sclerotized lobes that cross each other and extend mesad of the styles (Figs. 12 D – E). Linnavuori (1959) described and illustrated similar structures in Bolarga nigriloba Linnavuori, 1959. The coloration on the forewings is more variable than previously described. One female specimen among the series from Corumba, Brazil lacks any fuscous spots or markings at the base and middle of the forewing, while others in the series possess markings. Within the series from Guyana, the fuscous markings at the base of the forewing vary from a roundish spot (Figs. 12 A – B) to a more elongate marking along the inner cell of the clavus (Fig. 12 G).	en	Zahniser, James N. 9F37571B2230FFD4679AFF4C9494FBDF.taxon	materials_examined	Material examined. 1 ♂: Cabañas, PARAGUAY [new country record], Dist. Caacupe, Epto. Cordillera, 9 XII 1980 / RD Cave colr / Bolarga nigriloba Linnavuori, Det. J. N. Zahniser 2025 / USNMENT 01513513 [USNM]. 1 ♂: PARAGUAY: Central Dept., San Lorenzo, 5 December 1986, J. Kochalka / Det. J. N. Zahniser 2021 / USNMENT 01513072. 2 ♀, same data, USNMENT 01513033 and USNMENT 01513469 [USNM]. Female. Abdominal sternites largely brown; with diffuse yellow markings laterally; with or without longitudinal narrow medial white band; posterior margins with narrow transverse band of white. Sternite VII mostly yellow, with some brown coloration anteriorly and with irregular brown macula medially at posterior margin. Posterior margin broadly excavated, medially with small tab-like production. Pygofer yellow with numerous brown markings; with numerous macrosetae on posterior half, some concentrated at apex but groups of setae not as well-defined as in B. boliviana. Notes. Linnavuori (1959) described this species and originally placed it in Bolarga. DeLong (1982) transferred it to Daltonia Oman, 1949, a North American genus containing three species. However DeLong’s placement was based only on superficial similarity, stating only that B. nigriloba is “ … similar in color, form, and appearance … ” to Daltonia estacadus (Ball). The more convincing placement is Bolarga, a South American genus of Deltocephalini. In contrast to Daltonia, B. nigriloba shares with the type species of Bolarga, B. boliviana, a more elongate and slender shape of the body, the unique produced ventral lobe of the pygofer (Figs. 12 D – E, 13 C) and aedeagus with a ventral unpaired, spinelike process (Figs. 12 E, 13 F). B. nigriloba therefore is here reinstated in its original genus.	en	Zahniser, James N. 9F37571B2230FFD6679AFA969420FF36.taxon	materials_examined	Material examined. Paratype, ♂: Prov. del Sara, Bolivia, 450 m., J. Steinbach / Nov 1909 / C. M. Acc. 4549 / Allotype / Bolarga not Haldorus as in Lnv. / Thamno bifasciatus Osb. Diagnosis. C. bifasciata is very similar in external appearance and color pattern to C. trispinosa Linnavuori & DeLong, currently the only other species placed in the genus, but can be distinguished by the darker coloration of the face, venter, and markings on the dorsum, the thicker style apophysis, and the shorter and less produced articulating arm of the style. Male. Pygofer longer dorsally than ventrally; slightly bulbous anteroventrally; with numerous macrosetae on posterior half. Subgenital plates narrow, sharply triangular, with lateral margins concave; with a row of 7 to 8 macrosetae on lateral margin. Style with anterior margin deeply incised; articulating arm produced only slightly beyond lateral arm; preapical lobe broad, rounded; apophysis thick, short and blunt. Connective fused to aedeagus; anterior arms long, capitate. Aedeagus with unpaired ventral median process straight, narrow, and sharply pointed; apex strongly bifid. Notes. The only known male specimen of this species (allotype specimen) was among those recovered in loan found at USNM. Osborn’s (1923) description was repeated by Linnavuori (1959), but the species was never illustrated. This species clearly keys to Cruziella Linnavuori & DeLong, 1979 in the key to genera of South American Deltocephalini (Duan & Dietrich, 2018) based on the forewing with branches of vein R reflexed (shared with Bolarga), aedeagus with an unpaired ventral process arising preapically on the ventral side (shared with Bolarga), the pygofer lacking a sclerotized process arising from the dorsal margin and extending anteroventrad into genital capsule (present in Bolarga), and subgenital plate without a dense group of setae at apex (present in Bolarga). Dmitriev et al. (2022 onward) noted that Cumora Oman, 1938 was described as a genus in the same paper where Haldorus Oman, 1938 was described as a subgenus. The two were later consider synonyms by Linnavuori (1959) who recognized Haldorus as the valid name, but because of the original higher rank, Cumora has priority (ICZN Art. 24.1). Thus, the combination of this species with Cumora appears on the Dmitriev et al. (2022 onward) website and in the synonymy above. The genus name Haldorus has commonly been used in the literature.	en	Zahniser, James N. Prior to the record in Colombia reported here, this species was known only from the type locality (Bolivia: Santa Cruz Dept., San Esteban). Bolarga quadrimaculata Linnavuori, 1955 shares with other species of Bolarga and Cruziella an aedeagus with an unpaired ventral process but does not possess the unique inner pygofer process present in the other Bolarga, and possesses a tuft of setae at the apex of the subgenital plate which is present in the other Bolarga and is not present in Cruziella. Further study is needed to determine the proper placement of this species, but for now it is retained in Bolarga.	en	Zahniser, James N.
