Fronto-orbital plate and parafacial with setulae. Palpus yellow, base of the dilation very thin, spatula shaped except in L. serotina (Figure 3a – g). Tarsi compressed dorsoventrally (Figure 4b) or simple (Figure 4c) and pulvilli and claws well developed or very small (Figure 4a – f). Dorsocentral setae 2+3 – 4. Anepimeron setulose in the centre. Meron bare or with setulae. Prosternum bare. Sternite 1 setulose, except in L. serotina. Wing, all veins bare, except costal.</p> <p>To avoid redundant descriptions, the characters listed below, present in all Neotropical Lispe species, will not be repeated.</p> <p>Head. Male and female dichoptic. Eye sparsely ciliated. Frontal setae with different lengths. Two pairs of reclinate orbital setae. One pair of developed ocellar setae. One pair of postocellar, poorly developed setae. One pair of vertical, inner setae, developed and convergent, larger than ocellar setae. Hind tibia on ad with a row of better developed setae (6 – 7) as compared to those that cover the tibia. Male hind femur with one row of short, robust setae on basal half of pv. Meron with a few setulae.</p> <p>Redescription</p> <p>Male. Colouration: Ground-colour black, with brown and silvery pollinose areas. Head (Figure 16a): Frontal vitta blackish with a silvery triangular band that is slender at the insertion of the antenna. Ocellar triangle blackish. Fronto-orbital plate, face, parafacial, gena silvery pollinose. Antenna dark brown, with light, silvery pollinose areas. Apex of pedicel yellow. Postpedicel and arista dark brown. Thorax (Figure 16e): Ground-colour black, with light brown pollinose areas. Scutum with five narrow, dark brown vittae, the two middle vittae along dorsocentral setae. Postpronotal lobe and notopleural with silvery pollinose. Pleura black with silvery pollinose. Wing: Hyaline. Calypteres whitish with slightly yellow margins. Halter yellowish. Legs: Femora dark brown, yellowish distally. Tibiae yellow and tarsi black, the fore tarsus yellowish pollinose, middle and hind tibiae with yellowish pollinose. Phallus elongate with membranous apex, with projections on the anterior surface (Figure 9h); postgonite with setulae (Figure 9f), elongate, with scale-like projections on the apex (Figure 9e – g); phallapodeme more or less enlarged on the apex; ephiphallus reduced (Figure 9e).</p> <p>Female. Measurements (n = 1): Body length: 6.4 mm; wing length 5.2 mm. Similar to male, differs in distance between eyes being 0.45 times head width. Tibia pd, p and pv each with an apical seta.</p> <p>Terminalia. Epiproct slender with two long seta, measuring 5 times the length of the epiproct; cercus shorter than hypoproct, setulose, rounded at apex; hypoproct round and setulose. Male terminalia: sternite 5 with a median, apical directed process in addition to the short and apically semi-membranous lateral process (Snyder 1954) (Figure 6f).</p> <p>Cercal plate longer than wide, with many setae; basal margin with a large shallow incision and apical margin with a medium central incision and two large shallow lateral incisions; narrow central apex and lateral rounded apex (Figure 7f). Phallus elongate; postgonite elongate; phallapodeme not enlarged on the apex (Figure 8f).</p> <p>Additional material examined. USA – California, 1 ♀, 10 July 1930 (MNRJ).
