BF5787B2FFC9FFDAFF4DF89997225211.taxon	discussion	Comments: Coiffait (1960) described A. adonis based on a male holotype, a male and two females paratypes from Lebanon and Greece. This species is known from Lebanon, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Turkey (Schülke & Smetana, 2015). Accoding to Coiffait (1960), the species is distinguished from A. melanurus by the more rounded head, much more distinct punctation on the head and by the different shape of the aedeagus. The type specimens of A. adonis (Figs. 48 – 54) from the collection of H. Coiffait were studied. However, during the study of types of A. adonis and the additional material of A. melanurus (see above and in Anlaş, 2017), I did not find morphologial differences between these two species. Consequently, A. adonis is placed in synonymy with A. melanurus.	en	Anlaş, Sinan (2020): Notes on the genus Astenus Dejean, 1833 in the Mediterranean and adjacent regions. BF5787B2FFCBFFD7FF4DF943960B51A5.taxon	discussion	Comments: Coiffait (1981) described A. jordanicus based on a male (holotype) from Zerkatal b. Romana (Zarka Valley near Rumana), four males and three females (paratypes) from Jordan Valley, Wadi Farra in Jordan. According to Coiffait (1981), type series of the species were deposited in the author`s collection in MNHNP and HNHM. I visited both museums, but I could not find any type specimen of A. jordanicus in HNHM. An Allotype, one male and one female (paratypes) of A. jordanicus were studied in the collection of H. Coiffait in MNHNP. Coiffait (1981) did not mention the differences of this species from other Astenus species in the original description of A. jordanicus. A. thoracicus is probably the most common species of the genus in the East Mediterranean. Based on the original description of A. jordanicus (Figs. 67 – 74) and the illustrations of the aedeagus in Coiffait (1981: Figs. 1 G – H), the external morphology and aedeagal characters are found within the range of intraspecific variation of A. thoracicus (Figs. 55 – 66). This species is here placed in the synonymy of A. thoracicus.	en	Anlaş, Sinan (2020): Notes on the genus Astenus Dejean, 1833 in the Mediterranean and adjacent regions. Antennae long (approximately 1.2 mm) and slender, third antennomere about three times as long as wide; all antennomeres oblong (Fig. 75). Pronotum oval and convex; longer than wide, approximately 0.85 – 0.90 times as long as wide and approximately 0.90 times as wide as head and distinctly narrowed anteriorly and posteriorly (Figs. 75 – 76); each lateral side of prontum with two long setae, punctation similar to that of head, but moderately denser and larger, interstices without microsculpture; pubescence yellowish and denser than head. Elytra oblong, slighty broader than pronotum, approximately 1.10 – 1.15 times as wide as pronotum (Figs. 75 – 76); punctation dense and granulose, but coarser than that of head and pronotum; pubescence yellowish, little more distinct than that of head and pronotum. Hind wings present. Abdomen narrower than elytra, approximately 0.85 – 0.90 times as wide as elytra (Fig. 75); punctation fine and dense, surface with microsculpture composed of transverse meshes; pubescence of abdominal segments I – IV yellowish, and blackish on the following segments. Male: Sternite VII in mediobasal area weakly concave and slightly depressed, with some modified dark stout setae (Fig. 77); posterior incision in the middle very narrow and acute in sternite VIII, without modified pubescence (Fig. 78). Aedeagus 0.75 – 0.80 mm long. Ventral process of aedeagus apically expanded in lateral view (Figs. 79 – 80). Median lobe of aedeagus slightly narrowed to apical region in ventral view (Fig. 81).	en	Anlaş, Sinan (2020): Notes on the genus Astenus Dejean, 1833 in the Mediterranean and adjacent regions. BF5787B2FFC6FFD6FF4DFE38932554A9.taxon	diagnosis	Differential Diagnosis: It seems that A. henrii is a member of A. procerus group within the nominate subgenus. But, the subgeneric status of the new species should be confirmed by molecular studies. This new species can be distinguished from other congeners of A. procerus group in Turkey and adjacent regions by the different morphology of the male sexual characters. A. henrii separated from its congeners by the presence of slightly narrowed apex of the ventral process of the aedeagus in ventral view, and by expanding and rectangular shape in the apical area in lateral view.	en	Anlaş, Sinan (2020): Notes on the genus Astenus Dejean, 1833 in the Mediterranean and adjacent regions.
