The specific epithet “ brevititilana ” refers to the epiphallus near the dorsal surface is short.

Description (male). Small-sized for the genus. Head slightly wider than pronotum with a few pubescence. Occiput convex, bearing four dark stripes extending to the compound eyes; vertex broad and flat, slightly inclined. In lateral view, frontal rostrum weakly raised with slender setae, approximately as wide as antennal scape; scape of antenna thick and shield-shaped. Eyes prominent, median and lateral ocellus oval, arranged triangularly, the former slightly smaller than the latter. Postclypeus narrow and band-shaped; anteclypeus nearly rectangular; labrum rounded and shield-shaped, medially convex and extending laterally. Maxillary palpus flattened and broad at the end, horse-shoe shaped, significantly longer than the third segment; the end of labial palpus inflated and longer than the combined length of two segments.

Pronotum transversely broad, with a distinct median depression; both anterior and posterior margins straight, with slender setae. The forewings extending to the abdominal segment V; dorsal field with five longitudinal veins connected by a few short transverse veins; lateral field with four Sc veins. Hindwings absent.

Legs slightly robust with numerous setae. Anterior tibiae lacking tympanum. Postrior tibiae armed with four inner and three outer dorsal spurs, the first inner spur markedly smaller than others, apical spurs three on each side, inner spurs longer than outer ones. Cercus slender, bearing setae.

Male genitalia. Genitalia sclerotized. In dorsal view, epiphallus medially narrowed and laterally expanded; the base of upper lobe of ectoparameres crescent-shaped and abruptly tapering apically; the lower lobe inwardly curved and sharply. In lateral view, ectoparamere near the dorsal side short, while the one near the ventral side long, both all rounded and blunt. In ventral view, the lower lobe of ectoparamere gradually tapering from base to apex and the apex weakly elevated.

Female. Similar to male, but abdomen with tan spots; ovipositor arrow-shaped with apical valves feebly denticulated, longer than cercus.

Coloration. Body predominantly black; occiput with four yellow stripes extending to the compound eyes. Eyes gray and black. Pronotum black with numerous yellow spots. Legs generally yellow and black, and the outside of posterior femora with brown stripes.

Measurements (mm). Male (n=2). BL 5.08±0.32, HL 0.77±0.08, HW 1.50±0.04, PL 1.635±0.085, PW 1.26±0.15, FWL 1.395±0.075, CL 2.43±0.04. Female (n=2). BL 5.57±0.11, HL 0.87±0.07, HW 1.70±0.04, PL 1.29±0.02, PW 1.83±0.03, FWL 1.35±0.05, CL 2.56±0.073, OL 1.96±0.02.

Remarks. The new species is similar in morphology and genitalia to H. curifolis . In appearance, both species have four inner and three outer dorsal spurs, and the pronotum has many brownish-yellow spots. However, the new species is smaller, and its dorsal field has five longitudinal veins, and the dorsal field of H. curifolis is composed of irregular veins. In male genitalia, epiphallus of two species is medially narrowed and laterally expanded and ectoparamere is divided into upper and lower lobes. However, in H. curifolis, the upper lobe of ectoparamere is bracket-shaped, symmetrical at the base and apex, and when viewed from lateral, the ventral of ectoparamere is relatively sharp and slightly larger than the dorsal one, and the dorsal of one is rounded and blunt. In H. brevititilana sp. nov., the apex of upper lobe of ectoparamere is obviously sharp and narrow, the base and apex are not symmetrical, and the ventral of ectoparamere is obviously larger than the dorsal one, both are blunt and rounded.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/BE73B017FFA5EB099CC4FBD1FB70F808	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
