After euthanasia, the stomach contents were examined, and a mostly whole specimen of the climbing poison frog, Mantella laevigata (tissue sample MSTIS 00081), was found in its stomach. The colouration of M. laevigata is unique, allowing unambiguous identification of it as the prey item. Mantella laevigata is an abundant species in this area of the national park, which has extensive bamboo forests in which the frog breeds.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/C86787BEFFFEFFF625DDBBF3FCF69BDD	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. We speculate that the snakes were hunting these froglets, but no predation attempt was observed, and the snakes were disturbed by our headtorches and fled.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/C86787BEFFF9FFF125DDBC9EFD6F9EA6	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The snake was found eating the eggs of a frog above a medium, swift-flowing stream (Figure 3). Upon our arrival to the feeding event, the snake was startled and began to flee. Based on their appearance being identical to the eggs we observed laid by a female Spinomantis peraccae in the same stream several nights prior, we ascribe the clutch to that species.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/C86787BEFFFBFFF325DDB9F8FF6699E9	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
