CD25934CFFB31B1AFEAC87D26D11A919.taxon	discussion	Sars (1863 a, 1911; see Table 1, supplementary material 1, for archive item Ms. Fol. 1109: 613) found this species to be very common in the neighbourhood of Oslo (Eastern Norway) and assumed it to be common also elsewere in the country. Archive item Ms. Fol 1109: 468, no. 64 (Table 1, supplementary material 1) gives a reference to records from Southern Norway. According to Sars, this species prefers shallow ponds and ditches and is less common in large lakes.	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. C., Walseng, B. Unpublished archive materials also comprise references to records from Southern Norway (see Table 1, Supplementary material 1, for archive items Ms. Fol. 1009: 468, no. 58; Ms. Fol. 1009: 468, no. 64; Ms. Fol. 1009: 468, no. 68) and Northern Norway (see Table 1, Supplementary material 1, for archive item Ms. Fol. 1009: 468, no. 64). Generally, this species is found in small ditches and shallow streams, and rarely in the littoral of larger lakes.	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. C., Walseng, B. The first records were from lakes in Oslo (Sognsvann and Maridalsvann); it was later found in Lake Mjøsa (Oppland and Hedmark counties, Eastern Norway) and also in other lakes from the Southern part of the country.	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. CD25934CFFB01B18FE08806E6C76AD13.taxon	discussion	This species was found and described by Richard (1898) from the Svalbard Archipelago – from ponds on Bear Island; from lakes on Barents Island; most likely also from ponds on Amsterdam Island (young individuals) and from lakes in Sassendal. Olofsson (1917, 1918) reported this species from the littoral of various small freshwater habitats in Svalbard (Spitsbergen Island), characterised by moss and riparian vegetation, and from peat near ponds – that is Coles Bay (most likely pond Tenndammen, small pond, peat near pond), Pyramiden (small ponds in Mimerdalen), Nordenskiold Glacier (small ponds near glacier), Erdmannflya (small pond, water from bog soil), Diabasodden (moss, vegetation of small ponds, puddles, water-filled pit of the effluent), Adventfjord (moss, vegetation of small ponds), Crednermorenen (moraine) (small ponds, from soil and shore moss, vegetation). Brehm (1917) found it in Spitsbergen, Svalbard Archipelago.	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. C., Walseng, B. CD25934CFFB01B1FFEC0875E6DEFA8DE.taxon	discussion	Lilljeborg (1902) published his synopsis on the freshwater harpacticoid fauna of Sweden; however, the material he used for the description of M. insignipes insignipes was from Norway and the species has not been found in Sweden. The material was provided by the leading Swedish zoological curator, Gustaf Kolthoff, and it was sampled from a small water body located in the neighbourhood of Porsanger, Finmark county. Later, a more detailed description including drawings of this species was provided by Olofsson (1917), based on the original material of Lilljeborg (1902).	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. CD25934CFFB61B1EFE5580FB6EF6AD42.taxon	discussion	Sars found M. lilljeborgii close to the beach, in brackish water and tidal pools of the South and West coasts of Norway. Sars (1911) mentioned that this species was scarcely ever found in purely freshwater habitats, and he gave no clear hints of whether or, eventually, where it was found in fresh waters in Norway. In another of Sars ’ s sources this species was mentioned from rock pools in Western Norway and Oslofjord (Sars 1863 b), and it was also found in Lake Horvereidvatnet (Mulstadvatnet), Middle Norway. The latter is influenced by sea water (see Table 1, Supplementary material 1, for archive item Ms. Fol. 1009: 468, no. 58). Also, other species found here are of marine origin. There is archive material with reference to Northern Norway (see Table 1, Supplementary material 1, for archive item Ms. Fol. 1009: 468, no. 58). Boeck (1865) reported it from Oslofjord.	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. C., Walseng, B. CD25934CFFB61B1EFE5A82926EFAAA91.taxon	discussion	Enckell (1969) found this species along the coast in the south of Norway (covering Western, Southern and Eastern geographical regions). The species belongs to the fresh groundwater interstitial fauna, but can also be found in brackish water. Enckell (1969) investigated sandy beaches bordering lakes and rivers, taking samples both from the psammon and the hyporheic zone. CD25934CFFB41B1CFE22815B6D1DAE64.taxon	discussion	Olofsson (1917) considered T. longicornis to be very close to G. incisipes (Klie, 1913) – two species distinguished by their size and the morphology of the antenna. Later T. longicornis was considered to be a synonym of G. incisipes (Gurney 1932; Lang 1948). However, the species was reinstated as a valid species and placed in the genus Geeopsis by Huys (2009) as G. longicornis (Olofsson 1917) comb. nov. Olofsson (1918) found it from a brackish lagoon near Nordenskiold Glacier. The latter habitat consists of a shallow inner part with slowly running fresh water from the lowlands. Samples were taken from this part. In the lagoon ’ s outer part, water mixes with the salty water of the fjord and the proprotion of salt and fresh water changes with the tides. Another sampling locality, Lake Reliktsee (today, Vallunden), located in Crednermorenen (moraine), is connected to the sea by a channel. The tide flows in and out through the channel and therefore the water is salty (Kristensen et al. 2008). Still, Olofsson (1918) clearly indicated that he found Tachidius species in pure fresh water and suggested that this is a relict species that probably had been passively spread from northern Europe to Svalbard in later post-glacial time.	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T. CD25934CFFAB1B03FE5882AD6CC6ABF9.taxon	discussion	Olofsson (1917, 1918) considered T. spitzbergiensis a distinct, valid species, morphologically very close to T. discipes but still clearly distinguishable. Olofsson (1917, 1918) recorded it from freshwater habitats in the Advent Bay and from brackish-water habitats at Billen Bay and a brackish lagoon near Nordenskiold Glacier (Svalbard, Spitsbergen). The description of T. arcticus by Olofsson (1917) is based on material consisting of a single male specimen found in a brackish-water habitat at Green Harbour, Svalbard. This species is also considered a junior subjective synonym of T. discipes. This species was recorded from Spitsbergen (Brehm 1917), but without further indications about the exact locality. Sars (1863 b, 1911) reported this species from the Norwegian mainland, a shallow creek of the Oslofjord and brackish waters in many other places on the South and West coasts of Norway. This species seems to be tolerant of a wide range of salinity and is reported from Norway (marine habitat) by several other authors – Oslofjord (Boeck 1865), Bogfjord – Northern Norway (Scott 1903).	en	Dimante-Deimantovica, I., Jensen, T.
