Notes: — Cleoserrata bahiana was previously applied, as an identification on herbarium sheets, as Cleome bahiana Iltis, ined., with the indication of Harley 21972 (CEPEC) as the species holotype but was never published. Although this name was adopted by Costa-e-Silva (2000) during a revision of the Brazilian species of Cleome, and can be found noted on species labels in some herbaria in her hand, this name was never validly published by Costa-e-Silva either. The absence of bracts readily distinguishes Cleoserrata bahiana from the other species of the genus, although it is similar to C. paludosa in terms of its habit, the absence of an indument, sepals lanceolate, greenish, and petals lanceolate to elliptic and white. It is distinguishable from C. paludosa by the absence of stipules and by its elliptic fruits.	en	Neto, Raimundo Luciano Soares, Barbosa, Maria Regina De Vasconcellos, Roalson, Eric H. Hinton 10598 (GH, NA, NY, PH, US); Sinaloa: Rosario, 26 July 1897, Rose 1841 (GH, MEXU, MO, NY, US). Notes: — While Watson clearly designated Palmer 94 as the type of this species, no herbarium was found holding the holotype, although numerous duplicates of this collection can be found distributed in different herbaria. US and GH hold many of Watson’s types and either could be considered an appropriate choice for the lectotype; the GH specimen is somewhat more complete, with fully mature fruits and more large-stemmed leaves than the two US specimens. For these reasons we designate here the GH specimen as the lectotype.	en	Neto, Raimundo Luciano Soares, Barbosa, Maria Regina De Vasconcellos, Roalson, Eric H. Notes: — Jorgensen 3264, proposed as the type of Cleome paludosa var. brevipes in the protolog of the species, is distributed among various herbaria but without the designation of a holotype. The specimen in the BA herbarium is designated here as the lectotype as the Catalog of the Phanerogamic Flora of Argentina (Catalogue des phanérogames de l’Argentine) was based on material deposited in the Buenos Aires Natural History Museum, as well is the fact that this specimen was identified by L. Hauman (although it does not bear any designation such as “ ssp. nov. ” or “ typus ”).	en	Neto, Raimundo Luciano Soares, Barbosa, Maria Regina De Vasconcellos, Roalson, Eric H. ED438788FFB2B23BFF1BFC8AFD12432A.taxon	distribution	Distribution and habit: — Cleoserrata serrata is distributed from Mexico trough Central America and the West Indies (Jamaica, Cuba), Colombia, Surinam, and Guyana (Iltis & Cochrane 2007). Notes: — Iltis and Cochrane (2007) list for the type: “ Colombia: Cartagena, N. J. von Jacquin s. n. (holotype: BM) ”. However, the BM specimens are clearly marked as being collected in Jamaica, and the name was published in a work on Caribbean plants. For these reasons we believe the type information of Iltis and Cochrane (2007) to be an error. We chose the material BM 000589710 as the lectotype, as that specimen is most complete, with flowers and fruits, and demonstrates the characteristics most relevant to the recognition of the species, while the specimens BM 000573986 and BM 000573987 bear only fruits.	en	Neto, Raimundo Luciano Soares, Barbosa, Maria Regina De Vasconcellos, Roalson, Eric H. ED438788FFB2B23AFF1BF90EFDD44109.taxon	distribution	Distribution and habit: — Cleoserrata speciosa is native to Mexico, and cultivated in Central America, the West Indies, Colombia, Africa, and Middle Eastern countries (Iltis & Cochrane 2007). Also naturalized in China (Zhang & Tucker 2008). Notes: — While Iltis and Cochrane (2007) chose the drawing associated with the original description (Humboldt, Bonpland & Kunth 1821) as the lectotype, there are four important collections from the HBK collection trip that Bonpland deposited in Paris: P 00679905!, P 00679906!, P 00076108!, and P 00076108!. Two of these are actually annotated as the holotype (905 and 906) and the other two as isotypes. A lectotype is designated here for Gynandropsis grandiflora as the original description was based on syntypes, with the collection Galeotti 4655 best representing the species. We chose the specimen KW 001000303 as the lectotype, as it has flowers and mature fruits, which are not present in other specimens of Galeotti 4655. There is some confusion with respect to who was the original collector and the location of the original collection site of Cleome pachystigma Briquet, as the original description of the species cites Pávon as the author of the collection, probably in Peru. However, some specimens indicate that the material was collected in Mexico by Sessé & Mociño. This conflicting information is probably due to the fact that Pavón distributed the specimens collected by Sessé & Mociño, but they were erroneously attributed to Pavón. Iltis (information obtained from his personal manuscripts) noted that although this species occurs in cultivation in Ecuador, it does not reach Peru, thus confirming the error associated with the origin of that material.	en	Neto, Raimundo Luciano Soares, Barbosa, Maria Regina De Vasconcellos, Roalson, Eric H.
