Proarna olivieri nomen novum pro Cicada albida Olivier, 1790 nec Cicada albida Gmelin, 1789 Metcalf 1963a: 380 .

Distribution. The reference to the Cape of Good Hope as a site of origin for the species is in error as the species has been recorded from much of the Caribbean, Central America, and northern South America. The species has been reported from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Suriname, Trinidad, and Venezuela (Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2011 a, 2013, 2014, 2020d, e; Nunes et al. 2023).
