Causus maculatus (Hallowell, 1842)

Distichurus maculatus Hallowell, 1842: 337, pl. 19. Type locality: “ Liberia, Western Africa ”.

Causus maculatus (Hallowel, 1842): Bocage 1895c: 145.

Distribution. Widespread from Mauritania to Angola, eastward to Ethiopia. In Equatorial Guinea it has been recorded from Bioko as C. rhombeatus (Lichtenstein, 1823) (Boulenger 1896; Bocage 1903) and from Río Muni at Monte Mitra in Monte Alén National Park (Gonwouo & Nsang 2005) (Map 37B).

Comments. There are no precise records of this species for Bioko (Mertens 1964a). Details of its natural history were provided by Ineich et al. (2006).

Specimens examined. No specimens have been found in the examined collections.
