Distribution. It extends across Central Africa, from Cameroon to the East of Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Equatorial Guinea it has been recorded both in Bioko (Boulenger 1919) and Río Muni at Monte Alén National Park (Lasso et al. 2002), including Monte Mitra (Gonwouo & Nsang 2005) (Map 31B).

Comments. No precise records are known from Bioko. Bothrolycus is a monotypic genus sister to Bothrophthalmus (Zaher et al. 2019) .
