Eoophyla principensis sp. n.

Type locality: Principe Island

Imago (Fig. 75): Wingspan 11mm. Head ochreous; labial palpus curved upwards, segment 3 pale and pointed; maxillary palpus short; antenna dull orange-brown. Thorax fulvous. Forewing base fuscous; median area white with indisinct fascia of pale brown; a white crescent above dorsum partially surrounding grey tornal spot; two white pre-apical costal strigulae, edged fuscous; a yellow dash above tornal spot; termen yellow; terminal cilia fuscous in basal half. Hindwing whitish with a dense scattering of pale fuscous scales, interrupted by yellow oblique median fascia; a dark fuscous subterminal line, yellow between it and five black terminal eyespots, each with a silver metallic spot near the inner edge, small yellow wedges between. Legs whitish. Abdomen dull orange.

Male genitalia (Fig. 131): Uncus long and slender; gnathos 2/3 uncus, digitate with rows of spines on ventral surface; valva ovate, simple with two setae arising near apex which are about twice as large as the surrounding hairs; juxta long with lateral spines; aedeagus slender with apex clothed with small spines. Sternum 8 with a sclerotised plate bearing a rounded central projection on posterior end.

Female genitalia: Unknown.

Diagnosis: Clearly distinguished from all other species in the genus by the predominantly dark ground colour of the forewings and the yellow subterminal area of the hindwings.

Derivation: From the name of the locality.

Biology: Unknown.

Distribution: Known only from the island of Principe.
