Eoophyla tanzanica sp. n.

Type locality: Tanzania, Amani.

Imago (Fig. 45): Wingspan 12–20mm. Head whitish fuscous; eyes large; labial palpus segment 3 about half length of segment 2, pale fuscous; maxillary palpus prominent; antenna brown. Thorax pale fuscous; tegulae paler. Forewing base fuscous enclosing an orange elongate spot; narrow whitish subbasal and antemedian fasciae separated by fuscous and orange scaling; irregular trapezoidal blotch in middle of wing, whitish with scattering of fuscous scales; two whitish costal strigulae before apex, separated by fuscous and orange; silvery white tornal spot surrounded by orange; termen pale orange, inwardly edged black; terminal cilia dark fuscous interrupted white below apex and above tornus. Hindwing base pale fuscous becoming darker before irregular white median fascia; discal area whitish with fuscous scaling; two fuscous subterminal lines; four black terminal eyespots, surrounded by pale orange, each with fuscous scales above and a blue metallic spot on inner edge. Legs pale fuscous, darker near joints.

Male genitalia (Fig. 107): Uncus spatulate; gnathos almost as long as uncus, curved downwards with back pointing spines on upper surface; valva ovate, simple, with longer setae around apex. Aedeagus a simple narrow cylinder with some sclerotisation around apex.

Female genitalia (Fig. 178): Ostium moderate; ductus bursae narrow; corpus bursae simple, slightly shorter than ductus.

Tympanal organs: Venulae almost straight and parallel.

Diagnosis: Differs from E. nyasalis in the warm brown coloration of the wings, slightly smaller genitalia in both sexes; in the male the valva is narrower with costa less curved, in the female apophyses are 5/6 length of those of nyasalis .

Derivation: From the country name Tanzania.

Biology: Unknown.

Distribution: The “Eastern Arc” mountains of Tanzania.

Material examined: Holotype ♂ Tanzania: Tanga | E. Usambaras | Sigi River 2000ft | 15.viii.2000 | D.J.L. Agassiz. 5 paratypes, 4♂ 5♀ same data.
