In the original description of V. dianella Lameere, 1884, the author mentioned that the species was described with 3 specimens: “1 ♀ rapportée de Botafogo par Van Volxem; 1 ♂ et 1 ♀ du Brésil, sans localité précise” (Lameere 1884). Zajciw (1974) extended the distribution to Espírito Santo state, Reserva Biológica Sooretama; and Martins (1999) listed two more localities in Espírito Santo: Barra de São Francisco (Córrego do Itá) and Linhares. Galileo et al. (2008) redescribed and illustrated V. dianella . Botero (2015) designated a lectotype female from Brazil and a paralectotype female from the neighborhood of Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil.
