Family Helophoridae:

This monotypic family includes eight species in two subgenera ( Lihelophorus Zaitzev and Rhopalohelophorus Kuwert) from India, accounting for 4.0% of the globally reported species (200) (Tables 1, 2). d’Orchymont (1926a) described the maximum number of three species, followed by Semenov (1900a) one species, Zaitzev (1908b) one species, Angus (1970 a, 1995) two species, and with the most recent description by Angus et al. (2016). Of the eight Indian species, six are reported from the Cold Desert of Ladakh, three from the Western and North–West Himalayas and one from the Northeast and Semi–Arid regions. Helophorus (Thaumhelophorus) inexpectatus Angus has only been reported from India. The other species in the genus are distributed in Palearctic countries.
