Sibynophis melanocephalus melanocephalus (Gray, 1835) *

Material examined. MNHN 2002.0441 (female; SVL 322 mm, TaL 147 mm), about 30 km west of Pundung Lamanggang, Province of Jambi, elev. 420 m.

Taxonomic comments. This specimen is typical for the species as described in Morgan (1973); see also David & Vogel (1996).

Scalation: MSR 17; Ven 147; Sc> 70; anal paired; SL 9/9 (SL 4–5 entering orbit); Tem 1+2/1+2. Maxillary teeth 42, subequal.

Distribution on Sumatra. Provinces of Jambi (first record in this work), Sumatera Barat, Bengkulu, and Sumatera Selatan; also the islands of Bangka, Belitung, and Nias, and Riau Archipelago (David & Vogel, 1996).

Biology. This specimen was picked on a road crossing a tract of relatively dry, rocky open forest in a rugged area.
