Current status: Lixus colchicus Petri, 1904 is a junior synonym of L. elegantulus Boheman, 1842 .

Type. In Reitter’s collection at HNHM, is a pinned female fitting the description with type locality as Caucasus and bearing labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter” printed, “ Lixus colchicus n. sp. Petri”, “ Holotypus, 1904, Lixus colchicus Petri ” red brimmed museum label. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus colchicus Petri., Gültekin des. 2008”, “ Lixus elegantulus Boh., Gültekin det. 2008”. A pinned male (remounted and aedeagus dissected) bears the labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter” printed, “ Paratypus, 1904, Lixus colchicus Petri ” red brimmed museum label, and is here designated as paralectotype with “ Paralectotypus, 3, Lixus colchicus Petri., Gültekin des. 2008”, “ Lixus elegantulus Boh., Gültekin det. 2008”.

Remarks. Dissection of the aedeagus reveals that Lixus colchicus is the same as Lixus elegantulus Boheman, 1842 . Thus the following new synonymy is proposed here: Lixus elegantulus Boheman, 1842 [= Lixus colchicus Petri, 1904 syn. n.]
