Current status: Lixus subulatus Faust v. rubrolateralis Reitter 1909 is an unsubstantiated subspecies needing further study.

Type. In Reitter’s collection at HNHM, is a female mounted on card bearing the labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter” printed, “ Paratypus, 1909, Lixus subulatus Faust v. rubrolateralis Reitter ” red brimmed museum label, “Coll. Reitter”, and fitting the description with type locality as “Araxesthal- Ordubad”. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus subulatus Faust v. rubrolateralis Reitter, Gültekin des. 2008”, “ Lixus subulatus Faust, Gültekin det. 2008”. Another female, with the same labels as above, is here designated as paralectotype with “ Paralectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus subulatus Faust v. rubrolateralis Reitter, Gültekin des. 2008”, “ Lixus subulatus Faust, Gültekin det. 2008”.

Remarks. The name “ rubrolateralis ”was employed as a new variety of Lixus subulatus by Reitter (1909) “ Wie die schwarze Stammform, aber die Flügeldecken in der Mitte ihrer Seiten einen großen, roten queren Fleck, der sich verengend auf die Scheibe ausbreitet und selbst ein in der Mitte verengtes Querband formieren kann. Einige Stücke aus dem Araxestal-Ordubad ”. According to ICZN article 45.6.4., Lixus subulatus Faust var. rubrolateralis Reitter is to be considered at a subspecific rank. Winkler (1932), followed by Csiki (1934), placed the name in synonymy with L. subulatus “a. rubrolateralis Rtt.”
