Current status: Lixus scolopax Boheman, 1835 is a valid species.

Type. In Schoenherr’s collection at SMNH, under the name “ Scolopax, Schh.” is a male type bearing handwritten labels: “3”, “Ragusa, Dejean” and fitting description with type locality as Dalmatia. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, 3, Lixus scolopax Boh., Gültekin des. 2006”.

Remarks. Lixus scolopax is a well known and common species. Descriptions of the species Lixus lutescens Capiomont, 1875 and Lixus ewaldi Alziar, 1978 suggest that they are synonyms of L. scolopax: Lixus scolopax Boheman, 1835 [= Lixus lutescens Capiomont, 1875 syn. n. = Lixus ewaldi Alziar, 1978 syn. n.].
