Genus Aleochara Gravenhorst, 1802

A detailed description was provided by Klimaszewski (1984) and a short description by Yamamoto & Maruyama (2012). See Klimaszewski (1984) and Gouix & Klimaszewski (2007) for synonymic information and references.

Remarks. A phylogenetic study of the entire genus, using the molecular markers COI and COII, was conducted by Maus et al. (2001), supporting the monophyly of the genus.

Most of the type specimens in BMNH were already examined by some researchers. Unfortunately, many of the type specimens of the subgenera Aleochara and Xenochara were treated and dissected inadequately: for example, in many cases, whole specimens were soaked in KOH and were modified in shape and color, and the glued boards, which were important vouchers for judging the age of specimens, were replaced with new ones.
