Diagnosis. Members of the auripila speciesgroup can be distinguished from other Sagola species-groups by the following combination of characters: body small, length 1.8–2.4 mm; antennomere 1 approximately 1.5–2.0 times longer than wide; frontal sulcus deep and long extending between posterior edge of eye and end of head (Fig. 38j–k); hind wings reduced to small pads; abdominal tergites IV–VI with discal carinae.

The key is based on male specimens because most female specimens are indistinguishable based on external morphology.
