Diagnosis. This species is similar to P. elongatus and P. occidentalis, but distinct from the former for the costate elytra, lacking tubercles, and supraorbital carina only slightly raised; from the latter for the supraorbital carina weakly sinuate and pronotum indistinctly sculptured with a very shallow groove along anterior edge.

Redescription. Body length: 6.8–8.9 mm.

Body flattened, elongate (ratio max length/max width: 2.81–3.09); colour dark brown, almost black; body vestiture consisting of very short, recumbent whitish setae; setae sparser and more erect on antennae, dense on club.

Head transverse; supraorbital carina raised, weakly sinuate; supra-antennal carina not raised and edge entire, not indented; eyes protruding with short, squamiform interfacetal setae; angulate protrusion between antennal insertion and eye, visible in lateral view; antennal insertion ventral, just below the edge of supra-antennal carina; antennae 11-segmented with a distinct 3-segmented club; antennomeres I–III subcylindrical; I and III about twice as long as II; IV–VIII very short and simple; IX–XI distinctly transverse to form a compact club.

Pronotum slightly transverse (pronotal length/width: 0.81–0.83), narrower than elytra, without prominent median process; margins smooth; maximum width at middle, with one angulate lobe, directed anteriorly; sculpture as in Fig. 2 h, with a shallow groove along anterior edge.

Elytra about twice as long as wide (elytral length/width: 1.91–2.09), with lateral margins straight and smooth; tubercles on elytra absent; 3rd, 5th and 7th intervals weakly costate.

Distribution and habitat occurrence. SW Western Australia, SE South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and SE Queensland (Fig. 10 a); open forest.
