Caribeacarus ojastii (Lehtinen 1980), n. comb.
Material examined: Holotype M (ZMUT). VENEZUELA, Miranda, “ Parque Nacional El Avila ”, elevation 1400 m, in Eucalyptus litter of dry slope, 28.NOV.1977, coll. P.T. Lehtinen.
The material has no legs available and a single palp.
Diagnosis: Anal valves with 9 stout ribbed setae. Papl tibia with 39+ r setae, genu with 9+ r e 2 p setae. Palp tarsus with 10 d, 20 ch, 8 sm, 3 s, 8 sm, 4 v1, 3 v2 setae. Tarsi II-IV with 4 pairs of long serrated v setae and a pair of lightly bifid lv setae.
Note: this species was originally described in Neocarus, but presents 10 d type pectinate setae, as noted in the illustrations of the original work, which was confirmed by checking the type material. As the mounting of the type material was not allowed by the curator during the loan, a proper re-description is still necessary for a better comparison with other species.
