Remarks. Despite having the T. nigripes holotype in hand, Martins (1978b) did not compare T. castanea with this species. According to the original description, the general colour of T. castanea can be brownish or reddish-brown. In fact, the holotype is not brownish, but mostly dark brown. Among the species of Temnopis, T. castanea is the species morphologically most similar to T. nigripes . However, T. castanea differs as follows: scape proportionally longer and slenderer (Figure 53) (vs shorter and thicker (Figure 54) in the holotype of T. castanea); antennomeres III–V slender (Figure 49) (vs distinctly tumid (Figure 54) in the holotype of T. castanea); mesoventral process present (Figure 50) (vs absent (Figure 55) in the holotype of T. castanea); and metafemoral club thicker (Figure 50) (vs slender (Figure 55) in the holotype of T. castanea).
