Alcyonium sollasi Wright & Studer, 1889

Distribution: Southern Buenos Aires Province (40°03’S, 57°00’W, 164 m) (Argentina) (Pérez & Zamponi 2004 as A. haddoni), Straits of Magellan and Shag Rocks (100 m) (Wright & Studer 1889; Verseveldt & Ofwegen 1992) and Burdwood bank (409 m) (present study).

Remarks: Alcyonium sollasi differs from other species of the genus in having membranous or lobate growth forms and interior of the base with sparsely ornamented rods. The specimens examined were found growing over octocorals axes. This is the first mention of the species at Burdwood bank (NII), also representing the deepest record of the species (409 m). Synonyms at the area: Alcyonium haddoni (Pérez & Zamponi 2004) .
