Alcyonium sp. 2

Material examined: BBB 2016: St 13.

Distribution: Between Tierra del Fuego and Burdwood bank, NDR (610 m).

Remarks: colony bi-lobate, with polyps in conspicuous calyces and well developed anthocodial armature. Spindles from body wall resemble those on A. haddoni and A. yepayek, but A. haddoni lacks clubs in the inner layer and most clubs in A. yapayek have a central wart (Ofwegen et al. 2007). SEM analysis will allow us to cofirm if Alcyonium sp. 2 is, in fact, a new species.
