Material examined. Nansha Islands: Fiery Cross Reef, 112°58.9’E 9°39.5’N, 15 m, coll. Shaobo Ma, Yuli Sun, Ziming Yuan, 13 May 2022, 1 male (19.9 × 18.02 mm), 1 female (23.44 × 20.36 mm), 1 male (14.16 × 12.20 mm), NS-YS-2022-1098, in Pocillopora sp. ( Pocilloporidae). — Zhongsha Islands: Walker Shoal, 114°29.0’E 15°55.0’N, 15 m, coll. Shaobo Ma, Yuli Sun, Ziming Yuan, 17 May 2022, 1 female (20.94 × 18.65 mm), ZS-MB-2022-1004, in Pocillopora ( Pocilloporidae).

Geographical distribution. Across Indo–West Pacific region (Castro 2011).

Remarks. Trapezia rufopunctata is the largest species of the genus recorded in the South China Sea. The phylogenetic results show that this species is relatively distantly related to other species of Trapezia (Fig. 11), and this is also reflected in its morphological features, such as its significantly larger body size and sharp frontal teeth.
