Brontaea versicolor (Stein 1906)

Limnophora versicolor Stein 1906: 63 . Later transferred into Gymnodia Robineau-Desvoidy, now synonymised with Brontaea Kowarz.

Distribution. This species was previously recorded from Saudi Arabia and Oman by Pont (1991) and Abu-Zoherah et al. (1993). It was described from Madagascar. It was recorded from Yemen (van Emden 1948).

Biological remarks. Reared from cow dung (Skidmore 1985).

Distributional Remarks. Another Brontaea species, B. flexa Wiedemann, has been collected in Oman. The addition of these two species to the Arabian fauna doubles the number of species known from there. Some 40 species are known and occur in all zoogeographical regions but mostly the Palaeotropical.
